I guess I never realized as I started using them when I was still new to running.

Yeah same here I went back to the old pair of adidas and saw the design flaws are exaggerated in the new pair of sneakers even though some people were saying they are new and improved

One thing I realized is I used a different pair of socks with the old sneakers and they made a big difference. With those socks the older sneakers just functioned so much better. So I think it was the combination that made the run enjoyable, not just the sneakers.

Or insoles some insoles make the shoes worse and some make them better

Yeah something to cushion the rough edges of the shoes - that's what makes a big difference.
