Translation of the part relating to Arunita:

Title: Lata Mangeshkar Death: From Samadipta to Arunita, the two daughters of Bengal never thought they get Lata's blessings in this way.

From non-film to film songs - this Bengal was like her (Lataji) second home .

That is why Bengalis get extra love from the "Sur Sadhak" - like Arunita Kanjilal, of Indian Idol fame.

Lata was so fascinated by the songs of this artist from Bangaon that she signed her own picture and sent it to the Bengal girl.

Arunita is now in Delhi.

Her mother Sarbani Kanjilal said Lata told her daughter, "I like/love your singing, I can find myself."

She signed and sent two pictures.

Thanks for sharing this!

Tere Mere Beech Mein

Chosen because of the orchestra support which mimics the original recording!

See how she takes breath at 4:05 - 4.06 and moves the mike out to prevent feedback.!

Too good! 😃

About breathing - was listening to Lata interview - and she said that initially she would turn her face from the mike - but then she found a way where she did not have to turn her face from the mike and still not get the breathing sound - she also said for every line she would mark the place where she would breath. That is something you learn after singing 1000s of songs for many years.

There was an old interview that was being rerun on TB yesterday. She mentioned the name of somebody who taught her about how to breathe while singing. I forget the name, though.

Bold: I think many have learned that method now. Just that they don't have the notations in front when they sing in competitions. So they need to practice and execute.

A lot of good singers in competitions fail to master this skill of breath and mike control and it detracts from their performance in some ways.

Yes, and that's what made Arunita's singing so good and beautiful - her breath control and when to gently pull the face away from the mike. And as you said - she was just 17/18 years old during Idol.

Was just reading an article, where Wahida Rehman was remembering Lata Mangeshkar- this one is particularly relevant for singers today (those who want to sing well that is)

I got the chance to interact with Lata ji a lot during the shows that we did together in the US. My biggest takeway from those conversations with Lata ji was that despite scaling such heights of popularity and being such a big celebrity, she was still so sincere and serious about her singing. She never took her ability to sing for granted. She never said, ‘theek hai, main Lata Mangeshkar hoon, gana gaa loongi’. She used to sit back stage and keep doing her riyaaz till she perfected her suur before going on stage and singing. And this, she used to do every single time. The sincerity and hard work that she put in, made her the Lata Mangeshkar.

She was a supremely talented perfectionist. That made her very very special.
I read that she started taking Urdu lessons from someone called Shafiq because Dilip Kumar had remarked that "in Maharashtrianon ke saath ek problem hotaa hoi -- einke gaane mein daal-bhaath ki boo aatee hai!" 😃

She learnt Bengali diction and also always spoke only in Bengali with her close Bengali associates.

Her Bengal association was from her childhood. When at age 12/13 in 1942, she joined Master Vinayak's studio as small time actress, the studio was located at Kolkata and shifted to Mumbai in 1945. So she spent 3 years in Kolkata at an age when you are most receptive learner. So I am sure she must have picked Bengali at that time.
