i kinda get why damon hated stefan it wasnt just katherine he didnt follow through his promise of eternity of misery he didnt leave stefan without asking lexi to help him
in 1942 he was more than happy to reunite with him and go to war lexi asked him not to as he was a bad influence and stefan felt damon abandoned him
in 1950s he was tortured for 5 years stefan didnt come like he didnt know so i dont blame stefan damon turned off his humanity for 2-3 decades stefan knew but didnt care enough
he send lexi to him in late 1970s but i think he should have gone himself damon was hurt and pissed so he left lexi to burn
then when damon came in 1994 he genuinely missed his brother and wanted to be with him stefan judged and ridiculed him a lot because he didnt follow some rules he literally told him "your existence is enough to screw up my life and you keep failing" thats when damon broke and went on to commit his most horrible crime(he killed a pregnant woman) but thats in character as damon retaliates when he gets hurt
that being said,it still doesnt excuse damon's actions towards stefan but its a fact stefan also didnt care enough before elena came into the picture and he trash talked damon a lot
he started supporting him from s4 end only so i guess the better brother thing is complicated
s5 is damon's worst season as they just didnt know how to write delena and i pretend that season doesnt exist except some parts
