The lists (sense of humour/success/intelligence) are things you find out about people once you interact with them.

However, appearance is the first thing you notice in a person. Of course if we’re talking about the virtual world where you maintain anonymity, then that’s different. But even online, guys/girls on social media get DM’s or attention once they’ve caught the attention of someone who’s interested in them after liking how they looked based from their photos.

Where did this discussion turn to physical appearance and what men look at first?

The whole argument was Rahul went for an ultra feminine woman for a wife rather than a tomboy.

That's not only about appearance. In fact, it's less about appearance than overall attitude and behavior.

Looks are the first thing which draws the eye in any creature.

That's quite a bit different from claiming men are naturally more attracted to a certain type.

2 different debates. In any case, even in looks, it doesn't seem to be the ultra feminine type in women that attracts men the most.

Your appearance can also contribute to how feminine you look. Tina had long hair, wore cosmetics, and dressed in a more feminine manner. Her behaviour and mannerisms were also in line with that. Rahul was attracted to THAT type of looks. Anjali was the complete opposite in how she behaved and presented herself. Rahul was NOT attracted to that. As humans, it’s not just the physical features that draws our attention but also how they present themselves overall.

The argument itself makes no sense because Rahul had every right to feel attracted to whomever he deems desirable. Why is it such a big deal that he wasn’t interested in a tomboy? Why is anyones preference in what they find attractive/unattractive even being questioned? We’ve all had friends who we never felt an attraction towards. Maybe their appearance or mannerisms wasn’t something we found appealing for a romantic partner. 10 years down the track things CAN change. People change. Their appearance can change. How they behave can change. Those changes can become more desirable in your eyes. You can start developing an attraction to this change. I swear I said the word change at least 100 times. 😂

Another point is that Rahul never knew Anjali loved him! The world is acting like Rahul rejected her love and broke her heart intentionally. He had no clue about her feelings and it’s not like Anjali was in love with him this whole time. She started looking at him in a different light when the words love is friendship TRIGGERED her. That was her trigger point in starting to look at Rahul as a man and not her best friend. Rahul’s TRIGGER point was when he saw her after 8 years looking feminine and therefore more sexually desirable to him. This forced him to look at Anjali as a woman and not his best friend.

Someone please tell me I’m making sense. 😭

It makes sense to me.😎

Rahul had every right to his dating preferences just like Anjali had the right to ditch such a nice lad like Aman, who was perfect in every possible way, loved her and respected her mother, to boomerang right back to Rahul. If she doesn't get crap for falling for Rahul instead of Aman, neither should he.😆

It looks to me like some people are just offended by the fact that it took Kajol to transform from a basketball playing, athleisure wearing tomboy to a woman decked in saris and jewelry to be deemed as attractive. That's not a problem at all if that particular idea of "attractive" and "beautiful" is limited to Rahul's character in the movie alone.

But like EVERY EFFIN debate on this forum that revolves around media's influence on social norms, which is really a chicken/egg debate if you ask me, there will always be some people ripping the movie apart for instilling in people's heads what it takes for a woman to look attractive in men's eyes in general, not just Rahul. 😵 He was just a movie character but KKHH took pop culture by storm and therein lies the problem I guess -- when people can't use their own judgment and instead turn to cookie cutter KJo movies for ideas on what and how to be.

I know enough girls who were tomboys in high school who didn't get a lot of male attention but make heads turn now wherever they go. Are we supposed to pretend that phenomenon doesn't exist now? It happens all the time in reality too!

I think their relationship was still deeper than it seemed. For eg, when his daughter said Anjali, he immediately said sharma. She was always there as a part of his subconscious and he missed her, Anjali was more like a soul mate.. already a part of him and Tina knew it. There’s a reason why she enlisted her daugher with the task.

In the ladki badi Anjani song too, it’s always implied that he missed her (bheed main bhi thi tanhai, yaad har pal teri aayi). Not only that, he sees her older version in his head. Soulmate can be if different types and they don’t always have to be attracted to one another, they can be an inseparable part of each other.

Also, Rahul was not just attracted physically to Tina, we can see other qualities Tina has. His attitude towards her changes when she sings Om Jai Jagdish (so 90s 😆). Then he meets in the temple. Surely, he saw wifely traits in her.

You seriously believe that was Indian culture back then?

As someone who was actually alive at the time, I can tell you it was nowhere near normal.

You seriously believe it was okay and normal to wave a bra in a girl's face and make her think they had sex when she was drunk?

Again, not normal. Not right. 100% sexual harassment.

And promoting it as Indian culture!

But that was DDLJ and not KKHH. We are only discussing KKHH

I know the thread is on KKHH, but all my responses here were reaction to the claim (on page 1) the channel only disses a certain type of movie. I'm saying there's plenty to be dissed in such movies.

I have outright stated this is what offends me.

No, we don't need to pretend the phenomenon doesn't exist, but nor do we need to pretend it is all right to normalize the phenomenon and make it palatable.

It is deffo not any more all right than saying women need to lose weight to get a particular man.

You make sense, but I'm going to disagree that it's all right for a movie to normalize this.

This guy is really funny. I like all his revisit.

And it's his channel , so he can decide which movie he wants to roast.

More than that, people just may not find themselves attracted a particular person (for whatever reason it maybe). Even if Anjali was feminine looking during the college years, what is the guarantee Rahul would be into her? There were so many feminine girls in the college; was Rahul into all of them? So even if Anjali was like Rahul's type, there still is no guarantee that Rahul would be into her. You cannot force yourself to love someone or be attracted to someone. Love/attraction just happens. The way I see it, Rahul always saw Anjali as his best friend, as one of the 'guys' with whom he played basketball and whatnot. He just didn't view Anjali as his love interest. That feeling did not come to him naturally - now he can't force himself to love her, can he? In fact most people don't fall in love with their best friend for a reason - they feel a platonic attraction towards them and hence are repelled by the thought of romantic attraction with them.

So let's not blame Rahul for not loving Anjali. If that feeling does not come naturally, he can't force himself into it (and why should he, anyway?).

8 years down the lane, things changed. Anjali got more feminine, but there is nothing to suggest Rahul was the reason behind that. Rahul was lonely and in need of a partner. So when he saw Anjali, it rekindled some of his earlier emotions he had.

Him getting attracted to Anjali when her saree was blowing in the wind? Well that's what every straight guy would find himself attracted to. And trust me, physical attraction is a huge component of romantic love.

@ On topic: There's a lot of flaws and problematic things in KKHH. However this whole thing of "Rahul was into feminine girls" or "Rahul only liked Anjali when she wore saree" is ridiculous.
