Penned something down, because I didn't like the drunk Priya track and Neeraj's smirks. đľ
|| OS - His Birthday ||
Priya watched on as Ram held Vedika's hand and led her to the center of the dance floor.
Subha se mujhe se baat tak nahi ki hai inne. Aisa bhi kya gussa. Vedika ko party ka poora credit de diya, ek baar jaane ki koshish bhi nahi ki, ki arrange kisne kiya hai.
Priya sighed stopping her thoughts. She was exhausted after all the running around of the day. She wanted to make him happy. She wanted to see that bright smile of his that had the potential to lift a person from depression. But she hadn't seen that today. He was sulking. Maybe once he sees the cake that smile will appear. Thinking that she requested the man behind the counter to give her some lemonade. She realized she hadn't eaten anything since the brunch at home. Her immediate thought was had Ram eaten anything through the day.
She turned to look at him. He would have. Hunger and Mr Kapoor couldn't go together.
A weird feeling pressed in the pit of her stomach as she saw his arms around Vedika. They looked so perfect. Like they showed in movies. Ram Kapoor deserved a hi-fi, beautiful woman not her introverted self who had zero sense about the workings of high societies and the like.
The weird feeling deepened as his gaze locked with his. Ghoor toh aise rahe hai jaise maine inka birthday cake poora kha liya. She turned back to the counter only to catch the bartender talking to Neeraj. Neeraj gave him something that he slipped it into the drink and then was handed cash. Priya pretended to not have seen. The man then walked up to her and handed her the same glass, âlemonade maâam.â
Priya tried not to fume. What was Neeraj's problem? She took the glass and began walking towards the room. From the corner of her eyes she caught Neeraj following her. He had no clue he was walking into the den of a lioness .
Minutes passed, she waited looking at her watch. After another minute Neeraj walked into the room through the door she had intentionally kept open.
She folded her arms and looked at him as he stealthily slipped inside.
âPriya,â He mumbled looking at her as she looked straight at him.
âKya chal raha hai?â She asked wearing a serious look.
âWo, Maine tumhe andar aate dekha so I was worriedâŚâ
âworried? About me?â
âHaan Priya, I know parties and all are not your thing. Upar se Ram bhi avoid kar raha hai. Mujhe laga tum are ho tohâŚâ
âakeli toh Maithli bhi hogi naa, tum yaha jo ho?â
âHaan, wo, Maithli social hai. Tumhaare jaise.. nahi hai na..â
âExactly, pata hai. Mere drink mein kya milaya?â
âMine kuch nahi milaya tumhaare lemonade mein.â He spoke up instantly.
âLeking tumhe ye pata hai ki Maine lemonade piya.â She spoke up staring at him.
âHann wo tumhaare haath, mein dekha. TohâŚâ
âMere Heather mein?â She asked mockingly looking at her empty hands.
âPriya, main tumhaari drink mein kyun kuch milaunga.â
âYeh hi toh main jaana chaathi hoon. Dekho, bhaar naa bahut saare CCTV cameras hain. Aur wo 100 ruppe? Meri purse mein se gire? Seriously? Mere purse mein toh kuch bhi nahi thaa. Tum kya gadbad kare rahe ho iss baar?â
âPriya, tumhaari na fantasy hai ki main tumhaare peeche hoon..tume naaâŚâ
âShut up!â a voice echoed in the room.
They both turned to look at Ram who had stormed inside the room shutting the door. âKya milaya?â He spoke boiling in anger grabbing Neeraj's collar.
âRam,â He looked shocked.
âKyun peeche pade ho Priya ke?â
âRam, youâre getting it a wrong. In fact Priya ne mujhe yahanâŚâ
Priya looked at him with widened eyes.
âNot a word more. Henceforth, tum humaare ghar ke kisi bhi function mein invited nahi ho. Meri company ka portfolio, ab se tum nahi handle karoge. Aur Priya,â He paused, glaring at the man who applied gel like he got it at discounted price. âMeri biwi se door raho. Uske ird gird bhatke bhi naa toh, main bhool jaaunga ki tum Maithli ke Pati ho. Iss baar, jaane de raha hoon, again baar shakal bigaadne se pehle ek baar bhi nahi sochunga.â Saying that he released his collar and dusted his coat. âGot it, now get out.â
âRam, mujhe koi Shauk nahi hai. Tum aur main dono jaante hain ki Priya kaisi hai. Kaun uske aas paas rehna chaahega. Youâre mistaken. Priya mein, mujhe kya, kisi ko bhi koi interest nahi ho sakta hai.â
âMr Kapoor,â Priya yelled, jumping forward to hold back his fist from punching Neerajâs face.
âKya kar rahe hai aap!â her voice screeched.
Ram shrugged her hand off glaring at Neeraj. âGet out right now. Aur Haan, stay within your limits and do your self a favor, donât come before me. Because aaj jaane de raha hoon dobaara apne mooh se Priya ka naam tak nahi nikalna. I wouldnât want blood on my hands.â He seethe.
A visibly shaken Neeraj hurriedly left the room.
Ram inhaled sharply, undoing the top few buttons of his shirt feeling hot.
Priya looked at him, and controlling her anger grabbed the glass of water offering it to him. He couldnât as much as handle a stressful conversation and he had set out to physically abuse a man double his size.
âYou were out of line,â she said when he had finished the glass of water halfway.
âHe crossed the line.â
âMaithli ka pati hai, aap aise kaise usse aiseâŚâ
Ram looked at her annoyed, âIt doesnât give him a license to say whatever he wants about you. And I meant every word I said. If he crosses the line again, I am going to show him how much that can cost him.â
âMR. Kapoor! You donât have to. I have been handling him and I canâŚâ
âYouâre my wife, Priya. Whether we are on talking terms or fighting, arguing or whatever, no one crosses the line with you. And, itâs my damn business.â He muttered and looked away.
Priya took a minute to sink in that feeling of protectiveness she had never really got from any man in her life. She knew it was not right to accept it. But today she was willing to.
âThanks for trusting me.â She said softly.
âYou thought Iâd listen to that monkey face.â Ram shot back looking at her.
âmonkey face. Priya repeated and smiled. âHe doesnât look like a monkey.â
Ram looked at her irritated, âwhy do you even give him that much thought?â
âMr. Kapoor , why does he annoy you so much?â
âBecause he broke your heart and you donât deserve that.â He said.
Priya looked away. She looked everywhere but into his eyes. âYou havenât spoken to me today!â She said changing the topic looking back at him.
âYou havenât wished me yet,â he said looking into her eyes .
âAap hi toh mooh Bana ke bhaag jaate hain.â
âToh tumhe manana chaaiye naa.â
âAap uska mauka toh dijiye.â
âJisko kuch karna hota hai naa, wo aise, mauke ka intezaar nahi karta.â
Priyaâs mouth hung open in a o. âAcha. Lekin main kuch karoon bhi yoh spoke kahan digital hai? App ke liye ye surprise party plan ki. Aur aap, sada hua mooh banake ghum rahe hain.â
âAb daat rahi ho!â He muttered.
âDaant kahan rahi hoon, Mr Kapoor? Main toh bas explain kar rahi hoon.â
âFine,â He muttered and turned to leave.
Priya sprang into action and held his hand, âArey ruling toh,â
He turned to her, âwhat?â
âClose your eyes,â she said.
Ramâs gaze softened. He looked at her bewildered.
âClose your eyes.â She repeated.
He did as he was told. He felt her warm hand leave his. He heard the shuffle of her steps and then a soft voice which asked him to open his eyes.
Before him stood his wife with a large sized gift hamper. It was a bouquet made of chocolates, roses, cookies and small bottles of sparkling water which he absolutely loved.
âHappy Birthday Mister Ram Kapoor!â
He smiled taking the gift. âOh, itâs heavy,â he cried, thinking how she was holding it so effortlessly. He placed the hamper on the bed.
âThank you Priya!â h email with sparkling eyes and that million dollar smile, that Priya had been looking for. She smiled.
âI am sorry, I had to keep fighting with you so that the surprise remains intact. Otherwise you would have known. As it is I am very bad with surprises."
Ram smiled, wondering why Vedika hadnât told him that Priya had planned the surprise.
âI donât want to keep you here, away from all your friends and family. Letâs go,â she said.
He held her hand. She looked at him with a questioning look. He tugged at he randomly and pulled her closer, engulfing her in a hug.
âIt means a lot to me. Thank you, Priya, for everything.â
Despite not being a hugger, Priya wrapped her arms around him, realizing he was desperate to be hugged. He was so much of a hugger. âThe day has just begun Birthday Boy,â she spoke up, feeling awkward with their closeness.
âI am looking to it Mrs Priya Kapoor.â
A shy smile reached Priyaâs lips. She quickly took it down before looking at him as she stepped away.
He still held her hand, âwait,â He said and plucked out a chocolate from the hamper. âChalo,â He said flashing a toothy smile with a wink that had Priyaâs heart jump up in joy.
