Let’s talk about the 3 women in Virat’s life - Pakhi, Sai & Shruti. Not the actors, just the characters. While they all come from different backgrounds, they are introduced as strong characters. I know Pakhi is not our favorite, but please bear with me. My point is that whether positive, negative or gray, each of these women was introduced as an independent and strong woman initially.
1. Pakhi: Raised in a wealthy, connected family with love. Highly educated. Independent. Trained to be a dutiful wife and daughter-in-law. Supposedly very beautiful.
2. Sai: Raised with love by a single father who happened to be policeman. Strong, willful and fearless. Brilliant mind. Go getter. Heart of gold.
3. Shruti: Left the comforts of home life to marry a terrorist. Lived with danger. Pregnant and willing to give birth to her child in a forest. Respected by fellow terrorists. Tough as nails.
All these women started off as strong women and then met Virat Chavan and became little lobs of glycerin. Pakhi became a glorified waitress serving tea and assorted beverages to the seniors. Sai became the family punching bag and Shruti, all of a sudden, couldn’t handle labor pains by herself. This is what the writers reduced these women to. All for Virat Chavan. Who are these writers? Do they even know women? Do they understand women?
Do you think an educated woman like Pakhi would spend her life chasing after a guy who wants to have nothing to do with her when she has a perfectly fine husband? Wouldn’t it have been more plausible to show Pakhi dealing with residual feelings for virat while building her life with Samrat? There was so much scope for Pakhi’s character and she has been reduced to serving tea and making faces.
And Sai!! She is a 20 year old!! It would be been so nice to see Sai and Virats’s relationship arc - age difference, career choices, upbringing differences and what not. But we get a man who continues to give mixed signals to his ex and keep her in a holding pattern. At the same time, he believes he is in love with his wife, but refuses to tell and continues to emotionally and verbally abuse her. Yet he wants her to read his mind and know that he loves her.
Now let’s talk about Shruti. Considering that she is a terrorist who was married to a terrorist, she is tough as nails. She is expected to lead her band of terrorists after her husband’s death. Instead, she runs off with the police officer (the great VC) who killed her husband, so she can give birth to her child in a hospital. Just like that a tough terrorist needs a man to hold her hands and keep her safe. And they’re now going to play house. What woman would blindly trust a guy who just killed get husband??
So tell me, who is truly writing these characters? Can’t be a woman. Because a woman would be on the floor dying with laughter. This is 2022. Women like these don’t exist. This is a mockery of women and, yes, I’m including Pakhi in this because this character had so much potential and the writing team ruined her. Every character with the exception of a few has become one dimensional. It is so sad!!
It’s sheer laziness. From writing to editing to costumes. With the exception of Bhavani and Ninad, most characters are now caricatures to point that you can’t really related to them. The costumes are horrendous. Which medical student goes to college wearing bangles 3 inches deep and outfits meant for Sangeet. They have a lead who can pull off modern lehengas with ease. Why not use them. And what 30 year man wears double breasted jackets with pocket kerchief? Someone tell the costume department that the uncles retired that outfit in the 70s. Ugh!!! As for the editing, the home chefs on insta do a better job than the editing department.
Yes, we know you guys are #2. But they also said that the Titanic was unsinkable. And all it took was a measly iceberg. All the best. Rant over 🙏🏼
