Last part? Maybe.
Part 4
Akshu fell asleep as soon as she closed her eyes. The little activity made her exhausted. She still had to gain her strength back. The road to recovery was still long. Abhimanyu made notes on his phone: Akshara is aware of her surroundings. She has memory of people in her life. She is able to speak in full sentences and express her thoughts. She can move her head around and can move her hands. Her grip is weak but could improve over time. Overall, her cognitive skills seem to be intact and her motor skills are very good considering her injuries.
Abhi quickly sent the notes to Dr. Mahima. He decided that this would be his last act as her doctor. He didn't want to be her doctor. He wanted to be her biggest support system. He put his phone down and looked at Akshara. I can spend the rest of my life just staring at you, Akshu. He smiled to himself and stroked her hair. Dr. Mahima called him and told him she was very happy with the news and would come to do a more extensive test later on the day and Abhi should get some rest as well. Abhi knew there was no way he was going to sleep now. What if Akshu woke up and needed something?
It was around two hours later when Akshu finally woke up.
"Hi beautiful! Did you sleep well?" Abhi asked her.
Akshu smiled and looked around her as if she was searching for someone.
"What is it, my love? What do you need?"
"Aaru?" Akshu asked.
"I'll call her right now. I was waiting for you to wake up."
Abhi messaged Aarohi who told him she will be there in 15 minutes. She couldn't believe Akshu was awake finally.
Akshu seemed a bit tensed and that worried Abhi.
"Akshu, what is it? Is something bothering you? Please tell me."
"You told me today to not come in front of you or in Birla hospital but I am still here. I am sorry I was just trying to get Aaru to stop, I didn't know where the truck came from. I didn't mean to end up here." Akshu said apologetically.
"Akshu, your accident wasn't today. And I am sorry that I ever said those things to you. Please forgive me? I will never be able to forgive myself for saying such things to you." Abhi tried to control his emotions and not cry in front of Akshu.
"When was my accident?"
"It was over a month ago."
Akshu looked at Abhi in shock. A month ago? She has been here for a month? Where was Aaru? Did Aaru do something wrong? Did Abhi and Aaru get married?
"What about your wedding?"
"The wedding has been cancelled. Both Aarohi and I have decided to not get married."
"Is it because of me? Is Aaru mad at me?"
"It's not because of you and nobody is mad at you. We are all angry at ourselves for not understanding you. Akshu, Kairav told me everything. Why were you so quiet for so long? I kept tormenting you and you never spoke up. Why?" Abhi asked her.
Akshu looked away.
"Because I thought Aaru loved you and Aaru's happiness matters more."
"Well you are wrong like always, Akshara Goenka." Aarohi said. Akshu looked up to see her standing by the door.
"Aaru!"
"You might be older than me but you always been a duffer." Aarohi said as she went and sat on Akshu's bed.
"Aaru meri baat suno. Please gussa mat ho." Aaorhi could not believe that even in this state Akshu was more worried about offending her.
"Who told you my happiness matters more?" Aarohi got up and hugged her sister. "Akshu, I am so sorry. I am sorry if because of me, you ever felt like you don't matter. That your happiness doesn't matter. It does matter and so do you. I am sorry for always hurting you. And I am sorry that because of me, you are in this state today." Aarohi cried.
"What? What do you mean she's in this state because of you, Aarohi?" Abhi asked. He felt anger bubbling up in him. For over a month, Aarohi came here everyday and never once gave a clue about knowing how this accident happened and now she said it was because of her?
"Aaru please don't say that."
"But it's true, Akshu. You were coming after me. I was so blinded by my greed for power that I dismissed your questions as always. If I answered you before I left, you would have never come after me." Aarohi knew she would never be able to forgive herself.
"Aarohi can you please tell me what's going on?" Abhi asked her in a raised voice.
"Abhimanu, please. Let me talk to my sister. This is between me and her." it was Akshu that spoke up this time. Abhi stepped back. "Aaru, please tell me you didn't do anything wrong."
"No. I returned the money to Bade Papa."
"Good." Akshu smiled "Okay now why was the wedding cancelled?"
"Akshu, I think Dr. Mahima needs to check you for head injuries." Aarohi laughed.
"What you mean?" she looked from Aarohi to Abhi who was just shaking his head.
"Do you really think there will be a wedding while you are in the hospital? Do you really think we are that selfish? Well I can't blame you if you do think we are selfish because we have been selfish." Aarohi looked down.
"Aaru please."
"Also how can there be a wedding without a bride, silly?" Aarohi asked her sister.
"What do you mean?"
"Duffer! You are marrying Abhimanyu. From now on, you will never have to give up anything of yours for me. What yours is yours. We all know you love Abhimanyu and he loves you."
"Aaru....."
"Don't say anything. Anyways, I have to go back to duty. I'll be back on my break. You two behave yourself until then." Aarohi winked at them as she walked out.
Akshu didn't know what to say. She looked at Abhi. Abhi was still thinking about what Aarohi said about the accident and money. He put two and two together. Neil did tell him about Aarohi paying someone for something. He didn't realize this was the cause of Akshu's accident.
"I am sorry, Abhimanyu." Abhi got out of his thoughts and looked at Akshu who was looking at him, tearfully. Abhi decided Akshu was here and okay so no point bringing up the reason of the accident and hurting Akshu more. He knew Akshu wouldn't stand anything against her sister.
"You are the last person who needs to apologize. Both Aarohi and Kairav have cleared everything up. I can't even be mad at you because your selfless nature is one of the reasons I fell in love with you. But everything is fine now."
"Abhi...."
"Unless your going to say you love me, you don't need to say anything else."
Akshu blushed.
"Well...."
"I thought you said you already know everything...."
"I do but I still want to hear it coming from you."
"I love you, Dr. Abhimanyu Birla."
"I love you too, Akshara Goenka."
Abhi leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Just promise me one thing."
"What?"
"Never ever try to leave me again. Never. Our love story can't end like this. Aise koi nahi jahta chod ke. Yoon kehte nahi alvida..."
"I promise."
OK THE END.
