I don’t think he has any connection to Kerala now as his Mom’s side of the family moved to Mumbai 50-60 years ago, his aunt and uncle from his mom’s side live in Mumbai as well.

Remember the exodus of many Palakad Iyers to Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore after Independence and when the States were being formed and kingdoms became obsolete. To look for greener pastures and better jobs, they all moved.
