From a pure business perspective I don't think Octopus album can be called as a hit. Because they are spending quite a lot of money and time and only source of returns are YouTube views. Not sure what their buisiness model is.

Just as a song anything crossed 1M is called as blockbuster as per HR terms. So it is a hit.

Interestingly, there is no such thing as a definition (or benchmark) of "hit" on YT for a song.
Generally, people in India seem to claim that:
50M - Semi hit (or successful)
75M - Hit
100M - Super Hit
But that was a year or two ago. Things may have changed (upwards) since.

Here is something I read from Vasuda Sharma,(Screenwriter) a while back.that I found interesting:
“..... However, in today’s era, a few million views in a week’s time has become a common thing. And something like that in my knowledge is not all organic. Some are bought, while some are definitely gathered through ads on YouTube. So, regardless of how the content is, if there is money to pump in, you can have your desired number of a few million to show success. As they say… Jo dikhta hai, Woh bikta hai.”

To be honest I believe it's true also. These days even some regional songs are making 100M+ so 10M on hindi songs can't be considered as a hit.

Just out of curiosity what could be the basis of Octopus buisiness model? I can understand HR, he will stay in limelight and it will add to his profession. But Octopus is not in music related profession so didn't understand what is their long term perspective of this contract? I don't think Raj surani is dumb to start this with out any benefits.

Bold : that is the million dollar question we have all had since the project was launched. Where and how do they plan to recover the money?

We have seen Fremantle and Cine Blitz appear in credits (or at least senior people from these two organizations) - but are they funding, or is there some other future business Octopus is aiming for?

On digital platforms Sony is definitely ahead at the moment. And even though their fiction shows don't get the TRPs, most of their content is very well received.

I like Sony shows..they r a bit different than the regular run of the mill..we just watch Sony and SAB on TV apart from sports😊

Bold 1: I am at a loss. I am even more surprised that confetti is showered when the song hits 5M by Surani and can't believe that he actually celebrated 5-6 hours of Trending at a forgettable number on YT!
But what do I know? I surrender. My years of training fail me on this one. 😃
Bold 2: HR is testing waters for the main work that he does (film music direction) and quietly making some money with near zero investment. Plus every song is also credited to him because he starts them off. His discography may be heading towards a Guinness World record! 🤣 If he finds a singer/song that clicks he will use both in some form or other in future for more important works.
Bold 3: He comes across as a hustler to me and there are all sorts of funders and all sorts of money in the industry in Mumbai. So one can never guess the true intent and the benefits sought.

This song was sung by Pawandeep and Arunita in the launch event. That is the next song, but these don't sound like their voices.

I think they are considering the project as long term investment to establish their brand. There may be hidden issues like whitening of black money - not sure though. All wild guesses.

It could be even a venture capital investment by any financiar behind the scene fulfilling his/her long cherished childhood dream to work with Sony and II. 😆🤣

Not sure about the role of Sony in this project as a partner. May be they are just making money from selling their right on the II contestants. Have no idea really

Now that you mention Sony, maybe it is an investment by Sony to keep some Idols relevant for the period of the contract.
