Ranking the Villians on the Show

I know, I know, I can't expect villains like Sakshi Goenka or Gauri Lada from this show, but to be honest, I want to rank their motives and actions, based on how they are being written in my head (because let's be real, if I start ranking them based on whats going on show, anyone is barely going to go to 4/10)

It's my love for toxic, pyscho characters over the good ones that's making me do this, but irl, m a pretty nice gal like that, trust me!

1. Shashi

What? HE! This dude? I know, but his motivations and his manipulations tactics are real good. Before the writers decided to make Vedika the main villian and sidetrack this guy, he actually manipulated the people around him pretty well. He understood Vedika's guilt, Ram's love for his wife, and knew all the right words that could make someone who is less aware of the situation believe in him. Plus, all his motives are just for his greed (and later, for his survival) it has no extra emotional baggage around it (not even the fact that he is pushing his wife to her ex or something, just pure, 24 karat greed)

2. Vedika

She is dumb and delusional, I have to give you that, but if she was written with a bit more nuance, we would have actually got some version of Aitraaz's Sonia (not that I want her anyone around the air that Ram breathes, but well) She is greedy and selfish, and hides it well behind her charm and her innocence. I thought she would be driven by the lack of love in her marriage, but I like it better that it's greed that's driving her. She has been tossed around like a doll by the men in her life, and in her (misguided) attempt to set shit right, she is going to go all wrong (and by wrong, I mean super stupid wrong, no thanks to the way she is being written)

3. Shubham

Yup! This dude! I get annoyed by him so much, so kudos to the actor for doing that. But his motive isn't just greed, its self consciousness. He is a sibling of a semi popular SoBo girl and a super popular businessman. He hides his need for validation behind aloofness and rudeness, but, at the same time, manages to burst the last fraying nerve in your system. His plans are stupid, I have to give you that, but if, like I think, he is driven by the need for validation and does some reckless shit (that suits a villain and not a conspiring mil), he is up there as a good villain.

4. Neeraj

He is an open book, no lies, no pretense, all show. He broke off with Priya because she didn't fit his "ideal" wife description, chose HER sister because she did and then played around just out of the spite that his ex managed to find the "eligible" guy for herself. If I am to think about it, maybe it was because his ego couldn't handle the fact that Priya managed to find a dude better than himself. He is a toxic pos and doesn't hide it, but at the same time, has Maitri, someone who has seen toxicity her entire life, dance on his little finger.

5. Nandini

Why? Just why is she even a villain? Yes, her toxic love for her own blood makes her use her step son, and it's my headcanons that she married a widower despite having her own kids, just for his money (just like Cinderella's step mother) But everyone she is on screen, its a snoozefest, because its just monologue and worries and no real game. Small games like hers don't make sense, and sure, this is just a start, but Brinda managed to pull a bigger game than her by leaking the papers, and that's saying something, because Brinda isn't supposed to even be the cunning type (According to the writers)

Just my thoughts, no offense to anyone, if you have different rankings, drop them down, but restrict you annoyance to the characters, not the actors. Also, I know that ShuVina are Mr. Kapoor Senior's blood children, but I love to think that they are from Nandini's earlier marriage and Nandu married Mr. Kapoor Senior for his money and Ram is tolerating (read loving) children of some other man, because that's what his father had conditioned him to do as he grew up, because it makes for some real character development for Ram and Nandu.

@ bold: Wait, Shubu & Shivi are Nandini’s kids from a previous martiage? I don’t think so. I think Ram’s mother died when he was very young - that is why he hardly recalls or speaks about her. Then when Ram was a teenager his dad married Nandini, and they had Shivi & Shubu. Then when Ram was maybe in early 20s, his dad was killed in an accident.

It's my headcanon... Headcanons are like precursors for ffs.. Headcanon generally refers to ideas held by fans of series that are not explicitly supported by sanctioned text or other media.

That's the reason why I iterated that it's my headcanon in the post script of the post 🙂

My take on “the perspective villains”:

1. Shashi:

He is the equivalent of a snooty kid who bullies Ram because he WON “the candy” that Ram loved! He simply wants to reiterate time and again to Ram that “LOOK! I got the candy!” Like those Mean Girls who are all about hollow show-off and nothing else. He is a businessman and so all his acts— other than the dialogues he uses to get onto Ram’s weak nerves— are mostly the acts of a shrewd businessman who is trying to make profit and save his business by hook or by crook. The one thing I don’t like about him is that his “love” for Vedika comes off as plain show-off and that too just in front of Ram whereas in seclusion, he is one of those conventional patriarchal husband who think talking rudely to their wives is their birthright!

2. Vedika:

She is a dormant partner in all crimes all the other “villains” Of the show do, probably, because of her incessant need to just be EVERYWHERE WHERE THERE IS LIMELIGHT. He recent rendezvouses are not villainous, they are the acts of insecurity. I think, she is one of those girls who had a staunch belief growing up that they are ultra rich and absolutely beautiful… that they can have men fall at their feet with a snap of their fingers… as Ram used to do for her till Priya came into picture. She had in Ram, a constant validating factor, that even though she is married, her charm hasn’t faded, that with just a blink and wink of her eyes she can get men(read: Ram) will go to the ends of the earth because she is “special”. Even after she ditched Ram, he had been nothing but overtly loving towards her, going around doing “vedu-vedu” kirtan, therefore, giving her a peace of mind that oh! I am still good to go! Because I have him wrapped around my finger while I cha-cha with Shashi. Now suddenly, there is Priya entering her glitzy glam dreamy imaginary picture and she can see herself lose her hold on Ram. Her dialogues like, “Ram mujhse itni Jaldi move-on Kaise kar sakta hai”(even though it’s been 10 years already) are a proof that she is just not able to come to terms that someone else is becoming a priority in the life of the one man who gave her prime importance in his life! So, her acts of being involved with villains and trying to severe the ties between RAYA are just her ministrations to grapple onto the remnants of her shredding “self-confidence” that the world revolves around JUST HER!

3. Shubham:

Truly, he is too just seeking validation because he is the weakest among the company of his over-achiever siblings. He thinks he has the brains to be cunning but in all HONESLTY he just got brains to be just stupid! He thinks he works on the accord of his own mind but in reality he just a puppet in the hands of Sid and Nandini… they plan and he acts on their plans and still acts sassy as if he is the mastermind behind it all. He is again a rich boy who has problem with sood family and wants to get rid of them because he thinks they are below his “standards” and he is not comfortable mingling with “undeserving downmarket middle class peeps”. So again, idk if it’s appropriate to even label him as villain!

4. Nandini:

Now, again! Nandini. Is she really a villain? In the world of telly step-moms, she is infact a good mother. Even if it’s just for her own selfish purposes, she still cares for Ram. She is manipulative, having manipulated Ram into believing he needs them, when in fact, it’s them who needs him. But is she villainous? I don’t think so. She is just a mother whose son’s world revolves around her his whole life before she got him a wife, not thinking that he’ll eventually get closer to her(moth-flame theory) but not that she is seeing him get closer to his wife, she is getting insecure that she might lose relevance in his life because afterall, in her own words, “hai toh woh sauteli hi!” Come to think of it, she hasn’t ever done anything even remotely villainous to Ram or even Priya… never tried to kill or physically hurt them… never tried to(as is shown in many serials) throw priya off the stairs to kill get it have her run over by a car or truck to have her “kaam tamam”. Infact she cares for Ram, like, she was worried about him and wanted to know how Ram got sick on the wedding day. She admonished him for not telling her he’s sick. When he fell sick, she rushed to him as a genuinely worried mother taking his head in her lap and having tears in her eyes as she prayed to God for his well-being. How can she then be villainous? She is just trying to act bitchy by doing stupid shit to have them break-up, but even in that quest, she is the one who has been unknowingly bringing them closer since the day she stepped into sood house with the proposal to get RAYA married.

So basically, I feel… no one in this show is villainous. A jealous ex, an insecure brother and a plotting mother-in-law(I see my grandmom doing) are characters we see even in real life. None of them are villains, just characters who are annoyingly trying to plot against against the protagonists for their own selfish reasons, Kuch like in real life. The real villains I think was Mahendar sood’s second wife, for, she is the only one who has no business with the lives of protagonists yet tries to hurt them without any rhyme or reason…. AS THE VILLAINS DO! And thankfully she isn’t a prominent part of the show now, making it probably the only show without any substantial villains but only real-life inspired bitchy characters, at least for now!(and May that be it for as long as the show runs… hopefully, for years, that is!)

I like Shashi as a villian - he is suave, smart & sneaky. doesnt get carried away by emotions. He always behaves correctly in public. He puts himself first, takes care of his family (eg brother) but will not hesitate to use them also.

Neeraj is not really a villian at this stage.

The others are all flop villians. Rakhi is just a wannabe villian.

True !!

Shashi seems to be the only qualified villain. No one can believe he is a murderer.

Every one else seem so silly 😂
