Boys Over Flowers is a 2009 South Korean television series based on the Japanese shōjo manga series Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango) written by Yoko Kamio. The series is about a working-class girl who gets tangled up in the lives of a group of wealthy young men in her high school. It's adopted in Chinese, japanese, Korean, thai and Indian.

Some forewarnings:

Acting- acting is good not great. FL looks cartoonish and very OTT in the beginning but she improves in the dramatic scenes. Ji hoo also takes time to grow on you. While it's Gu Jun pyo, madam Kang, takes the role and makes it real, the other cast is good too.

Logic- sometimes something are shown really illogical and some storylines and plots gets abrupt endings. This is step to step taken from a comic book some things doesn't make any sense at all, infact throw the logic out of the window.

Second lead/ parallel lead and love triangle- there are many conflicting theories and people still take sides that who deserves better. I am really looking forward to it as it derives different perspective and opinions.

Nibba/Nibbi- They are college going students so be ready to encounter lot of nibba- Nibbi- stuff and fluff but in a good manner.

I watched the series and disliked the female lead double standard. She is never upfront and always has indecisive through out. Personally except for gu join pyo other characters are predictable. It's because of Lee min Ho , his dimple and hairstyle that appealed more, that I liked the series and kept on watching for him only

I am new to K-dramas, I always wanted to start k-dramas with this series.

So I take it that you are team junPyo. Seriously almost everyone is team Jihoo. But I liked the canon pairing.

Jandi sometimes made sense and sometimes not. Apart from Lee min Ho I liked madam Kang acting too.

I used to watch them occasionally and watched boys over flowers recently.

I am team Jun pyo. 😃

But there is a parallel love story of jandi friend which was equally interesting.

After completing this series do watch My Love From the Star.

It is also very good series.

Team junPyo 😃 wow I mean I liked Jihoo too but the actor Lee Min ho was better than the rest- so my loyalties rest with him and oh my I liked his mom too - what a woman😲 she can single-handedly beat all the ITV MILs 🤣.

Yes. Sure. I am also watching kdramas regularly nowadays. I wanted to watch boys over flowers from so long. But recently was able to do that. These dramas are so addictive. You can't stop with single episode.

I agree jihoo is sweet and I do not want to spoil ahead but there are hints in the series throughout that he is perfect match for jandi. But then our Jun pyo is not the one to back out either .

Jun pyo mother acting reminded me of Meryl Streep from Hollywood. She is so good.

I wanted to watch boys over flowers from so long. But recently was able to do that.

Me too, I still didn't had any inclination still but landed up watching squid games so had to watch this to cure the depression.

Truer words have never been spoken. I finished the whole series within 2 days that says something.

I finished watching the entire BOF but can't get over it, I have ask few of my friends to watch so that we can discuss and compare ITV and K-dramas.

So what made you like canon pairing more than the soulmate pairing? Try to explain in a spoiler free manner.

Soulmate pairing was the easy way for lot of series so far.

The fact that Gu Jun pyos character was so persistent and dynamic right from day one made sure he was never backing down. We see over time Jandi was the one who also developed feelings. But despite the love being two ways there were hurdles. Still when it came to expressing love, we saw Gu Jun pyo always making the initiative.

Jihoo is like comfort food but he never seized the opportunity and was late . Though there was ample scope later the pairing was not the end game as Jandi and Gu Jun pyo had reciprocated each other, so naturally they could not violate bro code.

Jihoo would have certainly accepted Jandi if Jun pyo would have given her away. But once Jandi has loved Jun pyo , he had to just stick by her side as there is no looking back. We get Jandi making the initiative towards the second half of series. Good that she finally starts making the effort.

Love is a middle ground. They have to meet in between. One person alone cannot be sufficient. Also we see soulmate can be your friend. There is no denying that you are good friends with your soulmate. However great love doesn't have to be with soulmate alone( with jihoo there was first sight instant love). It can be with a person you grow to love overtime. (With Jun pyo it was organic overtime). These are the factors and as a personality Junpyo was the one who always seized them which was likeable for me.

So true. It's tried and tested "made for each other" "part of soul" trope in most of the series.

He was never backing off or leaving them alone inspite of lot of hurdles in between. To be honest at one point I was like just end the sufferings of all whatever the endgame pairing maybe. But as you say right from the start junPyo went straight to what he wanted, jandi too when she accepted her feelings was persistent despite being so much in pain coz of the relationship.

Jihoo is the one I felt really bad and it was sad to see him pining and waiting fruitlessly. What's the wedding shoot for? He thought maybe he had a chance but jandi once realized who she wants was persistent till the end. I felt even if junPyo and her would not end up together she still will not go for Jihoo. Why?
