Chapter 84

Vienna

This morning felt different from all the others. Sweet and melodious chirps of the birds just outside the large, open windows woke Piya into the bliss of Abhay’s arms. The latter, awake with hair disheveled, touched his nose to her cheek and nuzzled it slowly. It tickled.

“Good morning….” He whispered, leaning close to her ear. Naked bodies wrapped into one another, Piya held his shoulders and nodded, as he kissed her cheek. His scent was dominating, and filled her nose. Roses and sandalwood. Entangled in the sheets, she hid in his arms. Pillows were strewn over the floor, mixed with their clothes, and sheets hung off the edges of the frame. There was a blissful silence that followed the song of birds.

“Good morning….” She murmured.

His hand slipped over her waist and stomach, and stroked her mark slowly. He pressed himself into her as she arched into him. The craving for each other didn’t fade from the previous night, it only grew. Their lips met and melted into one another, the fire of passion accentuated by their blood bond. Abhay let go, to let Piya catch her breath, and stared deep into her eyes.

“The bed is still intact, isn’t it?” He asked, voice deepening. Piya shivered and nodded. “I don’t feel like leaving, Mrs. Raichand.”

Hearing Ms. Raichand from his lips took her to another world all together. Her fingers caressed his face, tracing the most subtle features with soft touches, then his mark. This was all real. For every world out there, they were one.

The room was bright, and the candles melted and extinguished. Even their subtle fragrance lingered in the air.

He looked at her with crisp icy grey eyes, and gave her a small peck on the lips again. With the flick of his wrist, the curtains closed themselves, and small wisps of shadow began to caress her bare skin after finding some darkness and shade to thrive in. They tickled, but also felt like a soothing cold that one usually found on the other side of the pillow in the mornings. In the arms of her beloved immortal, she closed her eyes and lay there in harmony for just a few more minutes. His kisses dotted her cheeks.

“Are they home?” Piya asked, turning her head towards the bedroom door.

“Not yet.” Abhay replied, trying to sense for others in the house. He wasn’t expecting Siddharth to hold out for so long. He opened his eyes and looked at Piya, brushing her hair aside. Her chocolate brown eyes were so full of love and desire for him. He sometimes wondered if this was all a dream.

“Are you real?” He asked. Piya pinched his cheek, reinforcing her true presence.

“Any doubts?” She asked, with a wide smile. He shook his head.

Their lips met in a kiss again, and bodies began to melt and move in sync. The frame began to creak under the pressure, but Abhay slowed down. His ears perked up, hearing the door swing open downstairs, followed by the laughter of more than just his brother and bhabhi. It was her family too. Piya looked at him as he stopped.

“What happened?”

“They’re back.”

Piya’s cheeks automatically turned red, thinking they had heard. Abhay chuckled and touched her nose with his before standing to get dressed. No hesitation. Piya couldn’t help but stare, and hid her face when he turned back to look at her. Donning his robe, he sat by Piya’s bedside and slowly pulled the sheets down from her face.

“What happened?” She whispered, cheeks getting redder.

“Nothing.” He said, fishing her undergarments from the floor. She took them shyly and got dressed, while Abhay took a peek outside the door. “Your uncle and aunt are here.”

“Now?!” She gasped, suppressing a shriek. They only just left the bed. Neither of them were remotely ready to greet any sort of guest. Abhay held her shoulders. The rush of adrenaline faded as soon as he touched her.

“Relax. We get the excuse of being newlyweds fresh out of their wedding night. Let’s get ready. If they get upset, we’ll just blame Siddharth. Simple.” He said, shrugging with a devious chuckle. Piya burst into laughter and shook her head. Gathering her clothes from the now shared wardrobe, he turned to find him also entering the bathroom.

“Thought we could spend a little more time together. What say?” He asked, holding out the door, and subsequently his hand, to her.

“I’d love too…..” She said, blushing once again.

——————————————————————————————————————————

Siddharth and Mandu invited Piya’s family over in the early morning, pushing the events of last night far out of their minds until it developed more. A strange, but one off occurrence, and neither of them got hurt. Abhay and Piya would be leaving for their honeymoon this coming night, and neither wanted to burden them with this stress. They could handle it if need be.

Praveen and Shilpa were both there to see Piya once more before they themselves had to leave. Hiding their own stressors behind a smile, they wished for the newlyweds to leave for their honeymoon with a smile. Arnab came to visit them last night, along with Madhu, first intended to see Misha, and later surprised to see she had left long back. The two held in the intensity of their anger upon seeing Madhu with him. She was not at fault, and she didn’t need to face the wrath that they had for Arnab.

“What will you do with the villa now?” Siddharth asked, offering them both tea.

“Lock it up again for now. It’s a vacation home my husband purchased years back. Since Piya needed a place to stay while she studied, I had it opened just for her.”

It was nice to see the lights in that small place light up at night time. A little light in the forest of dark. The keeper of that light was now residing in their home, now at the top of the steps. Piya’s smile widened, and she descended quickly, Abhay following. She hugged them both, and sat by their side.

Siddharth winked at Abhay. Abhay rolled his eyes.

Pick out a bed frame?

Don’t need one, he thought back, with a smirk.

“Stay happy like this, always.” Praveen said, giving her his blessings. He looked at Abhay. “You both are leaving tonight?”

Abhay nodded. He was planning this honeymoon for weeks now. A special surprise to her, so much so that he hadn’t even told her the location of their trip. Piya didn’t know why he would hide this information, and not knowing made her all the more impatient to get there.

“When are you both leaving?”

“My flight is this afternoon. Praveen is taking the train back later in the evening.” Shilpa said. Piya nodded. She noticed a masked demeanor of the two, like they were hiding something behind their smiles.

“Is….everything alright?”

“Yes. Why do you ask?”

The atmosphere was cloudy. But Piya didn’t know what to say, or what to use to clear it. She twiddled her thumbs again and sat quietly, also still reeling in the effects of last night. Looking up at Abhay once more, and seeing him stare at her with such intensity, it made her soul ignite in the fire of passion. To imagine a whole two weeks alone with him, with no disturbances, was making her imagination run wild. Of course, he could feel it all and see it all, and that made the intense love and excitement much more potent.

————————————————————————————————————

Piya had been on a plane before, but never out of the country. There were so many things she didn’t know about travelling internationally. Abhay was taking his time in packing their things and getting ready to leave. He didn’t tell her any of the booking details, close to zero. This nervousness conflicted with her excitement. But Abhay had to know what he was doing.

“You’re not kidnapping me, are you?”

Abhay zipped up the suitcase and gave her an ‘are you serious’ look, then quietly laughed to himself.

“Why would I need to do that, jaan?”

She sat on the bed and leaned back on her palms, looking for any sort of sheet or paper that resembled a trip itinerary. He was too good at keeping secrets.

“Then tell me where we’re going. I’ve been asking you for so long. Please tell me.”

Abhay looked at the floor and just shook his head, placing their bags nearest the doorway. He took Piya’s hands and kissed her forehead.

“It’s a surprise. You’ll see soon. I promise, you will love it.”

She nodded, still impatient inside. Siddharth and Abhay loaded the luggage in the car. She looked at the villa once again. The lights were off. An end of a chapter, and the beginning of another.

“Enjoy yourselves, and don’t worry about us here.” Mandu said, giving her a hug.

“We will.” Piya replied.

The ride to the airport was quiet, just as they liked it. People were waiting for them once they parked, and guided them along a path separate from the other passengers. She looked around, then at Abhay. He didn’t seem phased by it. Abhay held her hand, and walked her out to the tarmac, without checking in or going through the security check. Straight onto the tarmac. Piya stood dumbstruck at the private jet parked in front of them. Her hair blew in all directions, from the wind and the power of the engines, obscuring her vision. She thought they’d be flying the usual way. She had never seen, let alone fly on, a private jet before.

“What happened?”

“I’ve never been in a private jet before.”

“Shall we?” Abhay asked, pulling her hair away from her face. Piya nodded, taking his hand. She was shivering. “Are you alright? Do you need anything?”

“I’m fine. Just nervous.”

“Don’t be, you’ll enjoy it. I for one can’t wait to spend these weeks with you. Alone.”

Piya blushed and shook her head, following him up the steps into the jet. The interior was stunning. Full of the Raichand grandeur. Abhay took her to their seats and helped her get settled. Once the luggage was loaded and crew ready, they prepared for departure. Piya stared out the window, even as the plane took off. Abhay stared over her shoulder, nuzzling her cheek. Her expressions, full of fascination, were beautiful. He wanted to make this trip of theirs the most memorable.

“How long is the flight?”

“About 10 hours.”

“Hmm….okay. I’m thinking somewhere in Europe.”

“Still trying to guess?” He asked, chuckling in her ear. Piya nodded.

“You’re doing a good job at hiding it. Even the attendant and pilot won’t say anything.”

Abhay kept silent, but entertained her guesses. When the jet began its descent, Piya stared out the little window, like a child, at the glowing lights of the city. It was her first time coming abroad, and she couldn’t wait. Like tiny stars on the ground, the nightlife had just started. Abhay held her hand and stroked the back of her palm gently with his thumb as she watched. Her hand squeezed his with the hard landing, back pressed into the seat.

“After you, jaan.” He crooned in her ear, once the plane made its stop near the terminal. Piya stood up and gathered her things and herself. Abhay followed her out and waited for their luggage to be loaded on the trolley. Piya stared around, looking for a sign.

He had a car already prepared for them upon their arrival. A few words were exchanged between Abhay and the clerk, in fluent German. Piya stood quietly behind him, trying to guess further. Multiple European countries spoke German. But which one were they in?

“You’re going to love it here.”

“Here should have a name right. I know you were speaking German just now.”

Abhay didn’t say anything, and opened the door to the passenger seat of their car. Piya grumbled and sat inside, arms crossed. But she kept a strict watch on everything and anything outside the window. There had to be a sign somewhere.

Vienna International Airport.

Piya turned quickly, seeing Abhay with a small smirk plastered on his face. Her emotions went into a sudden turmoil, remembering their conversation from months back. She told him about her dreams, all out in the open. The Musikverein.

“You remembered?” She asked, trying not to cry. Abhay took her hand, and squeezed it in his lap.

“How can I forget?”

The city lights brightened their route and then slowly left themselves behind, into the lush and vast countryside. Bigger houses, but spread out miles apart between each other. The sky above was bright and beautiful. She opened the window, and stuck her head out, letting the wind blow through her hair. Down the road, a small blip of light appeared after a few miles of dark. He pulled up before a two-story house, decorated with small lights hung on the railings. Piya stepped outside, looked up at the stars twinkling with them, and felt Abhay’s hands clasp her shoulders.

“Welcome to our little world.”

————————————————————————————————————

The bedroom was much bigger and much more open than the one at home. The entire house was like this, open and liberating. Well kept and organized, following the same color schemes. Books everywhere. Just like how Abhay liked it.

After exploring what there was to the house, Piya joined Abhay in the living room. With a thick novel in his hands, he sipped his drink and delved deeply into the array of words until she joined him. He set the book down, and lifted an arm out to call her in. Piya snuggled up to him, back pressed against his bare chest, and stretched out her toes. Swirling a glass of blood-laced wine in one hand and dancing fingers across Piya’s belly with the other, he dipped his head in the crook of her neck and left a hickey. The book lay face down on the side table.

“What were you reading?”

“First, Lord of the Rings, now, your thoughts.” He cuddled her closer. “How did you find the place?”

“It’s beautiful. How many houses does your family own? Private jet, multiple houses. Your family is richer than I thought.”

“Too many to count. We’ve lived in so many countries, and to fit into society as businesspeople, a home was a must.”

Piya nodded and kissed the underside of his jaw. Abhay looked outside the sliding window. This location was perfect for seeing not only the stars, but the milky way in the sky too. It was just dark enough too.

“The sky looks stunning tonight. Shall we go stargazing?”

Piya got up and planted her knees on the couch, staring outside the window with him. Her mouth opened in awe.

“Can we? I want to bring my violin too.”

“You don’t have to ask me. The night is young.”

He played with her hair. Piya smiled, and ran off to get ready. Wearing a light blue frock, she twirled once and took Abhay’s waiting hand, pulling him up with her. In her hand, the violin case rattled with her excitement.

“Let’s go.”

The fields just behind the house were vast and empty, a perfect place to go stargazing. Soft hills, a warmth in the air, and the bright stars above. The entire cosmos were there to light up their first night on their honeymoon. Piya placed the case down and lay down next to Abhay, holding hands. She remembered the night they stargazed together again, asking questions about each other just to get to know one another.

“I really didn’t think you would remember.” She said. “Even I forget sometimes. Especially what’s going on now…”

“I could never. You know that.”

She nodded, and tried to keep her sniffles to herself. Swiping her arm over her eyes, she turned away for a second. Abhay heard and rolled to look over her, then wiped her tears. Piya threw her arms around him.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” He whispered back.

Piya looked up and kissed him. She gathered her bearings, staring up at the bright moon and stars above. It was the perfect time to play. Her violin made its appearance after a long flight, its sound permeating the air of a foreign country, one rich with music already. She already knew what to play. Abhay sat up, knees tucked under his crossed arms. The soulful notes of Clair de Lune filled the empty winds and carried her melodies far and about. A perfect piece for a perfect night. It had been a while since he could last listen to her play without distraction. The sounds reached his heart all the same, along with the joy and calm that her movements and expressions conveyed.

When the song concluded, he clapped for her, sneaking a kiss on the forehead when she took a deep bow. Piya giggled, and brushed her hair back.

“Did you know, the sound of your heart sounds the sweetest when you play?” He whispered. Piya shook her head. “Music does reside there, doesn’t it?”

He laid his palm over it gently.

“Stay like this, always.” He said.
