With all this baccha talk, I wanted to write something different...so here goes.
Virat has a cameo in this.
Pulkit had dropped off Harini at CN for 10 days to take Devi out of town for an appointment during the college vacation . Harinee was mostly staying with her Virat maamu- Sai maami in their room because she was most attached to them. Virat wasn't home all the time because he had work but it was Sai who was keeping Harinee busy and entertained. And watching Sai with Harinee was something that filled Virat with fondness and even more love, admiration, adoration for Sai.
While everyone treated Harinee like a kid only buying her chocolate or ice cream, or baby-ing her or commanding her on how to do things, Sai was veey different. Sai treated harinee as an actual person. She treated her with respect and also always made sure to acknowledge the child's individuality. She talked to Harinee in simple words but didnt necessarily dumb things down thinking that shes a kid and not "intelligent" enough.
The other day, Virat walked in to watch Sai doing "magic tricks" for Harinee. He merely stood at the door to observe them. Sai had scattered bits of paper on the floor and then used a comb to make the pieces of paper get stuck to the comb. She chanted some abracadabra for effect as she vigorously rubbed the comb on the woolen blended fabric she wore and then held it near the paper n voila, the paper bits rose to stick to the comb and as little harinee watched in wonder, Sai merely smiled. Then she took a glass filled with water and asked harinee what would happen if she turned it over. Harinee- said- maami, paani gir Jayega.
Sai- hmm. Agar mein yeh card rakhun toh?
Harinee- maami yeh card toh patla hai. Paani toh girega...
Sai- chalo try karte hai. I'll do magic so that it doesn't fall.
Again Sai chanted some gibberish mantras and kept the card and flipped the glass and Lo! The water stayed and the card didn't fall.
Harinee clapped in amazement.
Harinee- maami, mujhe bhi magic sikhao na. I want to do magic.
Sai- Harinee, magicians apne tricks kisi ko nahi bataate. She laughed
Harinee- please maami she pouted and made her best puppy face.
Sai- hmm.... Chalo tum meri sabse favorite ho, iss liye tumhe sach bataungi ok?
Harinee- sach?
Sai- haan. Harinee- maine joh tumhe dikhaya- yeh magic nahi, yeh science tha.
Harinee- science? Par science toh school mein sikhaate hai na. Agle saal seh mujhe bhi sikhayenge said the 6 year old.
Sai- haan science school mein subject toh hau hai. Par pta hai harinee, humaare roz ke zindagi mein hum roz aise jo bhi chhoti chhoti miracles or magic dekhte rehte hai- its also science!
And then Sai proceeded to explain in simple words the concept of static electricity and air pressure and surface tension that she had been demonstrating.
Harinee was listening to Sai in rapt attention and so was Virat.
Harinee- Sai maami, mujhe bhi science seekhna hai.
Sai- bilkuk, hum roz aise kuch na kuch experiments karenge ok...vaise tumhe khud try karna hai magic?
Harini- maami, magic nahi science!
Sai laughed.
And then Harinee was playing with the comb n water glass/cardboard getting big thrills out of the abundant joys of the simple but powerful things in life.
As Virat watched her interaction with little harinee, Virat couldn't help but wonder how wonderful Sai would be as a mother someday to their kids. And that thought made him not just happy but also blush.
Its super duper random I know but I always imagined Sai to be unique n different in the way she handles kids also.
