If they focus on Kajol, Anurag and Arjun, it could have been more interesting. But no, Leena Gangopadhay is such a psychopath who shows women in an extremely bad light. Now the IMDB review was correct. It has nothing to offer rather than its regressive story of Bhabhi-Devar and Jija-Saali relationships.

THIS.

They should have kept the story around Kajol Arjun Anurag and Shreya. It was doing so well when that was the case.

Why fix something that doesn’t require fixing. No one gives a hoot about Chondana, Noina, Priyanka or that Nani.

No one is saying that there is anything wrong with Anurag’s character being supportive or that the show needs to be all about Kajol and not him. Guys read the post properly and understand it’s context at least. Also, toxic is toxic 100% agreed.

We are talking about trps here and why most probably the show won’t survive. And no one is saying to not show Anurag as a support system. But for the show to do well, they need to chop off extra negative characters and make Kajol stronger. Anurag can keep on supporting her but currently he is her mouthpiece while she stands mute. That needs to stop.

And even if some of you don’t like me saying it, the truth remains that the male lead alone cannot carry the show. Sorry. Especially where people expected to see the FL’s journey and eventually Anjol. They need to make the FL stronger. Period.

I agree with you 100% that a show that purports to be women centric needs to be that. A Male protagonist as a support system is fine but it should be the Female protagonist who should be front and centre. But for a show to succeed now a days specially on Colors it needs to be regressive and have a focus on romance with heroine being the damsel in distress and being saved by the hero time and again. Strong female leads who can rescue themselves are not something people like to see and shows with such a premise mostly fail. And toxic males as heroes are another thing people love, I mean people have been petitioning for Pinjra Khoobsurati ka to be brought back so you can imagine if Kajol became free from the shackles of patriarchy then how will Anurag ride to the rescue?

We most of the times blame creatives for regressive shit they pull out of their sleeves, but I think 1st we should question the majority of the viewers. Becoz they are the ones mostly responsible for the crap they are showing on ITV.

Whenever someone tries something different it gets either rejected so fast by viewers and they never make it on the TRP boards.

If a woman gets humiliated, abused mentally and physically : TRP are high

If the male lead manhandles the female lead, pushes her to the wall : this is seen and accepted as ROMANCE: TRP high

If the female lead cries buckets of tears, is being treated as a doormat by husband or in laws, abla naaris: TRP high

The audience needs to make a mind shift first, before REGRESSIVE shit can stop on ITV. And ofcourse makers should hv the guts to try out something different like what Anupamaa is trying to do

Hey- don’t know about the others but my post on this thread was intended to address the point made by the thread author @YehRashiThi (except that I cited your reference on Vivian Dsena and toxic male leads but only as a reference). My underlying point, if not clear- I will watch this show despite too many -ve characters because I like Anurag’s arc. Will be quoting your post when I want to directly address your point

Agreed about Kajol needing a support rather than a mouthpiece, but I’m also tired of reiterating this on the episode discussion threads and I’m tired of wondering when she will grow a spine so I’m just enjoying the show for whatever it has, which as of now is a good ML
