1.Afsana has mental health issues which needs treatment. Probably she is on treatment , as this cannot be the first time she had a breakdown.

2. People have really no idea what are the various mental health disorders , and what should be done in such situations.

3. If a situation like that happend in bb arise , where a person is getting irritable with a knife in hand , first step is move other people away from harm ,

Stop arguing with her and call the help /call the doctor.

4. Umar was able to handle the situation better because he is doctor , who have had his psychiatry posting during mbbs and during his house surgency period. (Even after this many docs do not know what to do because exposure to psychiatry in Indian cariculum of mbbs is less , unless you opt for md psychiatry).

5.road accident is different from mental breakdown.

6. Peoples expectation of HM to cuddle afsana , calming her down is not practical, because there are at high risk that she might harm herself or others. There are instances when people need to be physically or medically restrained .majority of times people with acute nervous breakdown CANNOT BE PACIFIED as shown in various movies and serials. Blaming teja that she didn't hug , pacified and took afsana away is not correct. Many a times psychiatry doctors or nurses are not able to pacify mental breakdown without meds.

7. Her family had seen her getting problems inside the show.why didn't they contacted bb to get her out.No one can ask the housemates to take responsibility of afsansa mental health. It's she or her familys responsibility to make sure that she gets help.

8.. Humanity is a rare idea when mental health is concerned. Stigma is so high its really difficult to explain and make people understand mental health.

9.BB has used afsanas illness for trp , its sad .

10. The only thing hm should have done was to stop arguing with her.

11. Yes there are instances where people have faked mental illness to get their way, so can we blame house mates reservations regarding afsana.

a very well summed up post. If she is on treatment her doctor should have advised her NOT to enter the house. BB is not a safe place for her.

Bold: YES! That is what I have been trying to convey as well, a lot of people hate crowds and touching especially in moments like these when they are vulnerable - things could in fact escalate because of such actions. It was in the best interest of everyone to not get involved. Umar is the only one equipped to do so.

I don't think insaniyat is the right word... Umar is a doctor and is equipped with both the knowledge and skills to handle a situation like this. Others not intervening was the BEST course of action at that point. The only place where I would say 'insaaniyat' was lacking would be when despite her outburst/breakdown Shammo, Jay, Neha and Rajiv did not stop instigating her.

I don't expect them to approach Afsana with sympathy. They probably do not even understand what was going on with her and were just answering back as they would in any fight as opposed to purposely "instigating". It was not mean-spirited but bad judgement. Afsana was not in a state she can be reasoned with. The house doesn't exactly have a friendly and tolerant atmosphere, otherwise we wouldn't have so many (physical) altercations this season.

I do not feel particularly sorry for her. People keep saying housemates should be sympathetic but try living with Afsana where otherwise small things can set her off and she gets distressed. You, as a housemate, just have to bear with whatever she says and coddle her? And it's not like she is an angel when she is feeling relatively well e.g. punishment task where she slept despite housemates' pleas.

It was a mistake on her and BB's end to even come on the show. It is not suited for people with such mental health issues. It just aggravates a person's condition. They should do a proper psych evaluation next time prior to or periodically during the show to ensure housemates' well-being.

Umar is a doctor, and I'd venture to say he knew more than the others, what to do at that point. But even he, given it's not his speciality - cannot be expected to have known exactly how to deal with this situation. Toh I don't see how one can expect that from the rest of the HMs.

I'm no medical or mental health professional, but what I can say is that I don't see how the other HMs crowding Afsana at the point and trying to cuddle and comfort her would have at all helped. It could have worsened things woh alag. And bottom line - if you don't know how to deal with something, it's best to step back and let someone who does know - deal with it, or get help. So I don't think it was insensitive or inhumane of those that stepped back in the least.

Haan - the ones that continued to argue with and incite Afsana further, were insensitive and lacking in empathy.

Afsana was completely wrong but people were bitching about her. Shamita, Vishal were provoking her. Teja is two faced. I know maybe they got scared of her but they would have spoken nicely with some emphathy and care. When Arati got panic attacks in season 13 Rashmi always supported her.Disgusting BB humiliated her more. These ppl enjoyed that too. Cunning foxes.
