I may get accused of thinking West is more "cool", but I do think their way of parenting is much better where kids are expected to leave the house when they turn adults.

The change can honestly happen when parents stop expecting their kids to take care of them in old age.

For that they first need to raise their kids in such a way that they become independent when they turn adults, and they too are independent enough to take care of themselves in old age.

Unfortunately India as a country is still not developed enough to provide good facilities to senior citizens. So parents expecting their kids to take care of them in old age is not completely wrong either.

But at least they should stop giving everything up for their kid till they're capable of, only to make them repay in old age. Have a life of your own and don't make it revolve around your kids. Our parents may not understand this but we can. The ball would be in our court when we become parents and it would be our choice on how we want to shape the next generation and the future of society.

Obviously this would lead to little sufferings for everyone involved, but that would be better than all sufferings given to women only.

I think kids do need to take care of parents, they should take responsibility either way -when it’s needed.

Most parents are not so old when their kids are just getting married.
