Actually my feeling is that whenever he opens his voice fully and sings, he is superlative - while if he has been asked by the music team to soften his voice, then you can feel that he is being constrained and less than his capability.

I think you are right about Uncut.

The other times u said when he was constrained was during india ki farmaish 2 when he sang phir se udd chala with the drummer boy (drums is not used in the original song imo it's his n that boy's Collab so they took it easy) further speaking comparing to others he rocked that day but fall short of his own comparison when he sang the song on voice n IBD finale

Another bigtime reason is the choice of song given to him !

I was listening to my PD - Arunita playlist on a long (really really long) drive a few days back. I agree with what you say about Suhana Safar, but I also felt in a few other songs - can't remember which - where it appeared that he was conscious and restrained while trying to get a soft voice compared to his regular voice.
