I agree that Mata Sita had to go through under several pains and sufferings but according to me Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram is the best character as though he himself was lord and king than too he suffered several pain and given several hard decisions that broke him completely from inside but he kept a smile on his face . When his Mata Kaikeyi who loved him the most and vice versa objected for declaring him as king and questioned him , he didn't utter a single word but accept it with smile. Though he never complaint but can anyone feel the pain when your beloved, the one who trusted you the most and whom you trusted blindly starts questioning you out of nowhere , you starts getting a doubt on yourself. You starts blaming yourself for it . When he got to know that his father died in his memory, and you the eldest son whom he love the most was not present there with him in his last time but indirectly became the reason for his death , your heart breaks into pieces but you can't show it as you have younger ones to handle. When your beloved, your soulmate, your lifeline got kidnapped but you despite being the best warrior can't do anything, your life seens aimless. When you see your dearest brother almost at the death bed because he was fighting for you, you feel ashamed of yourself. When although you know that your soulmate is not at fault than too with heavy heart forcefully you ask her to prove her purity in order to save her dignity from the society, you want to kill yourself but you can't. When you are eagerly and happily waiting for your kids to come in this world and 24*7 taking care of even the slightest needs of your wife, your life, your whole world, but for saving her from further questions of society on her character you have to order to leave her in the jungle, you just want to die a painful death but can't. When you see your son's for the first time in your life in front of your eyes after several years but in order to save them from the same condition their mother suffered, you questions them about their real identity. Seeing your wife in vulnerable state after several years of pain and longing when you just want to engulf her in your arms and keep her safe away from the world but see her calling for death in front of your eyes , you just want to set the whole world on flames and give yourself the worst punishment for the painful death but you have the responsibility of society.

Raja Ram in his single life died a thousand times, suffered every single day but we can't feel his pain. So , according to me he is the best character of Ramayana..
