She will be treated like a winner in her state because Bengal has no culture of public voting to determine winners in such contests. Individuals make their own choice and voice it on SM. But the judging is left to those who are qualified to do the job.
So voted winners don't necessarily get the recognition here in case someone else is the public choice. To them Aru is the real winner, and while no one will take away PD's glory, it is just that she will be put on a pedestal despite not winning.
Arunita is special to many here. Her talent shines through and touches people. There was no fuss with the last 3 WB finalists (in IL10 & 11) who did not win.

I don't think winners or finalists of any other reality show were ever felicitated at this level by people or govt office holders. This time it was really special. They all were really fortunate to be part of Indian idol this year.

Shreyan is, but is undergoing voice change. Rupsa and Priti are popular in their locality. I think Priti was treated well after winning. Kushal trailed away towards creating music instead of singing, but is popular on TV. In the normal course local competition winners at the state level are usually more popular than national level competitors. That is because the local contests are high quality. Arunita herself is a product of local competition. Shreyan was in the same contest, as was Anushka and Neelanjana. As was Ashmita Kar of Saregamapa 2016.

Had to share this knowing how much Arunita likes musical instruments!
