Was also aware of all.the conteoversies the show had. And, umm, from the little I watched... tbh, Niti didnt draw me in too much. Otherwise, I see why it is appealing, especially to the youth. Has that relatable feel with the college setting, the friendship dynamics and of course the romance and chemistry!

@bold...as a individual actor. I feel the same. She's meh.

But her pairing with parth as manan. It's fireee dude. They have some serious chemistry.

Also plisss parth looks soo hawt. ☺️ I never really paid attention to him before and the few clips I watched were of kzk2 where he looks lika chomu🤣

Soo..when I watched kyy I was surprised by how handsome he seriously is.

As you can see .. I've got someone new drool over now a days🤣

No really...when I wtarted watching it I was seriously expwcting them to use the gay ml as a prop and comic relief and get the teenage pregnancy sorted out through marriage... because that's the usual route in ITV but color me surprised.

The current track I'm watching revolves around sexual assault and eve teasing and stuff. Very mature handling tbh.

But then Ig mtv doesn't really fall under ITV svope does it. But still for a Indian channel to show all of this and that to I'm taking 7 years back...wooahhh. I am impressed and Ig that's half the reason I'm watching. I wanna know how they handle other tracks...the other half being how hot parth looks

(I'll stop with the parth jaap now, you guys seem to have an idea of how deep of a impression he's left🤣🤣)

@bold - yup. Honestly, and I hate to say it, IDK if I even want the MV at this point. The whole reason for the MV was the BTS and seeing their camaraderie and friendship, and if I don't get to see that, then what do I care about some 4-min video?

I'll be honest and very brutal.. I'm not that interested in the MV. The craze isn't there, it's not like old times.

It just seems tainted yk. Like somehow everything has that gray tinge to it.

I'd rather be happy with my old clean memories than overshadow those memories by whatever's coming our way. And it's not like both of them are excited. It feels like both of them did it because, it needed to be done...like a obligation.

Can I tell you a secret..

I like aish but imo she's not lead material. Or maybe it's the character that's making me feel this way.

I have feeling if EK puts a komolika type vamp against aish in her new show na... she'll overpower aish esp. since the chracter is written very shittily!! I can tell it just from the promos

Funnily enough I never watched this the first time around, but I did really enjoy it. Fawad Khan = . Man I wish things had played out differently and he'd done more B-wood. Suppose the moment's gone now.

Weirdly, a lot of the kinds of movies I want to watch these days - fun, frothy, light romances - tend to have Sonam Kapoor in them (Aisha, Khoobsurat, The Zoya Factor) 😆 which brings down the acting levels somewhat 😆 sadly that oeuvre of movies is pretty much my jam at the moment. So come on, Sonam, if I have to bear you in another one of these movies, I will. Just please hurry up and make one 🤣

Khoobsurat is my fav movie ever. It just fits the criteria of rom com so well.

And I agree 💯 percent guys. We aren't getting good rom coms these days from anywhere.

I mean give me some znmd and yjhd and I hate love stories kinda movies pliss bollywood.

Or let's just go back to the saif ali khan in rom com era. Hum tum, tara rum pum, salaam namaste, dil chahta hai, love aaj kal..

@bold - well, 'decent' is the keyword. I've trawled through a lot of badly written shite on the likes of Kindle Unlimited 😊😆

I did read Battle for Bittora (another Anuja Chauhan) recently which I enjoyed. I like Sakshama Puri Dhariwal's novels - Man of Her Match is the first one, which I enjoyed but not as much as The Wedding Photographer (basically a big fat Punjabi wedding), which I read first. They're standalone but have characters that link across both. She's only written the two so far though...desperately hoping she comes up with another one soon bc I like her writing style.

Some others, which are basically glorified Mills and Boons (not a complaint...I grew up reading M&B though you do get tired of the endless billionaire princes...where are all these specimens IRL? 😆), that I read recently are from Aditie Banerjee (Wedding Shenanigans) and Alisha Kay (The Maharaja's Fake Fiancee). Both are quippy and banter-filled, though shallow in terms of content. Then again, sometimes that's what you need.

Otherwise, I find that a lot of Indian authors' content is either geared towards the South Asian American experience, which is great but doesn't match mine at all, or they're all about writing heavy LITERARY FICTION about the Indian experience as shaped by colonialism and honestly I'm tired of this idea that Indian lit has to in some way reference or pay homage to the bloody Raj

Or the books are written by Chetan Bhagat, in which case I want nothing to do with them 😆

/rant

I've not read it yet but I have one in my Kindle TBR called Excess Baggage - not a rom-com but it's about a Punjabi mother and daughter who are always at odds with each and take a road trip together, a la ZNMD. Sounds fun 😆 Also on my TBR is To Lahore with Love, which is about a Irish-Pakistani woman who has always felt torn between her two halves, and who travels to Lahore after her dad's death, to connect with him through their love of food. Again not a rom-com but seems v. interesting.

There's a couple of upcoming ones I'm hoping will be good: The Shaadi Set-up by Lillie Vale and The Terrible, Horrible, Very Bad Good News by Meghna Pant. The title is odd but apparently it's already been optioned for a movie adaption, to be called Badnaam Ladoo, which honestly sounds way better as a title 😆

I find there are few and far between Indian authors who write "chick lit" (hate the term but for ease of reference), and even fewer who write from a British Indian perspective (which is obviously closer to my frame of reference than the American experience). There's a lot of amazing Korean-American, Black, and other ownvoices work out there now, so I hope Indian authors also bring something more to the party.

LOL at the looooooooong comment...clearly I needed to get this off my chest. And you did ask 🤣

@bold oh my goddd, you've taken the qords from my heart and written it down.

This ia EXACTLY the reason I stopped reading Indian authors although, I've yet again begun making a move back towards them.

I'm actually very excited to read the shaadi set up by lilie vale. The synopsis was extremely cuteee!!

If you need some recs humess. I have a few in my tbr and a few that I've already read. So ping me up.

Not gonna write here because then I'll get excited and next thing yk it's a two page essay where I'm talkng about books and which and liked and why🤣🤣

The excess baggage is good. Give it a read.To lahore with love...i found the concept very repetitive but that's because I've read about 3 books with the same core idea. And the writing style wasn't my cup of tea.

And one of my forever favs...it all comes back to you. Perfection. It's such and amazing book na. Its satisfies that itch of rom com that you have and you end up smiling soo wide. Plisss read it.

Also....idk if my quoting the same post again. But I got excited and then went to my goodreads to check my tbr and already read so that I could tell you about my favs😆

Ik I said, I won't write about books but I got excited🤣

And love from A to Z by sk ali. It's in my tbr so no review but whatever I've heard has been good.

And if you're seriously craving some romcom na ..plisss plisss read the brown sisters series (it's not by a desi author tho)...same goes for the spanish love deception. Both are really good❤️

And red white and royal blue..by casey mcquninston. It's one of my favs.

I did really like this convo humes ans arshi😆. Too bad I wasn't present and had to quote later on.

Also...rom coms aside. Indian authors have really stepped up their game qhnw it comes to fantasy tho. I've been reading some really good fantasy books by indian authors.

Writers in all honesty, seem to have forgotten that India existed before british came, i mean for someone like me who's extensively read Indian history and likes reading it. Colonialism from pov of a reader is the most BORING thing to read when it comes to fiction.

If you need some recs or even better you have somw good booma to suggest to me. PLISS PING ME UP. Vaise toh I'm going through reading slump rn. Since I finished palace of illusions..kuch aur pick hi nhi kiya. TA6 uthayi thi but fir vapas rakh di.

BEFORE I GO, THE ROCK CHICK SERIES. It's very cliche aand very very very fun to read. It's that light hearted read that make you smile. Pliss give It a try.

I'm excited for The Shaadi Set Up too, so I hope it lives up to my expectation. A few times recently I've been excited for a desi book and ultimately disappointed by it - I'm looking at you, Sara Desai's The Marriage Game 😊 (also why do all desi books have to have marriage in the title? 😆). IDK if I'm being overly harsh bc it's also my own culture, but sometimes I read characters - esp FLs - in these desi novels and cringe at the way they've been written to react. And if I cringe too much, it puts me off the story entirely. Which annoys me bc I truly want to support desi authors and buy their books so they keep writing more, and so we have more diverse stories, but once I'm done with a particular style of writing/character/book, I just can't continue. It's what happened with The Marriage Game and Sajni Patel's The Trouble With Hating You, both of which I couldn't finish in the end. And I haven't bought/read Sara Desai's second book bc I didn't like her first. So that sucks.

It's why I keep rec-ing Sakshama Puri Dhariwal, and why I'm desperate for her to write more - I was grinning throughout The Wedding Photographer, just thoroughly enjoyed all the characters. IDK if you've read it D, but there's a Punjabi naani character that makes me think of how you've described your naani before - bindaas and cool AF 😆

Also nobody here's going to hate your two page essays on fave books...bring them on! 😆

Thanks for the mini-reviews on Excess Baggage and TLWL. I'm looking forward to both...let's see how I get on.

Just Googled It All Comes Back To You - is that the one by Farah Naz Rishi? I haven't read it but your description and the synopsis sounds good so adding it to the TBR!

I tried reading the Spanish Love Deception book recently...I liked the concept, but the writing was just a bit too jarring for me, and I couldn't keep going. I have it on my KU still so maybe I'll try again at some point.

That 'itch' is exactly right - it's what I have right now and it's sooooooooo hard to find something that fully scratches it, be it movies or books. Finding those gems is now almost as much fun for me as reading/watching them is 😆
