I was surprised about Neerja but she pulled it off. Other than I agree with the fashion comment but fashion is her strength that’s where she should be.
I haven’t read any other rom com novels by indian authors - what other decent ones are there. I mean rom coms you can ready Lucy score she has some good ones.
rom coms are the best and it’s just like they’ve stopped making them
I've read a few Lucy Score books - agreed she is good.
@bold - well, 'decent' is the keyword. I've trawled through a lot of badly written shite on the likes of Kindle Unlimited 😊😆
I did read Battle for Bittora (another Anuja Chauhan) recently which I enjoyed. I like Sakshama Puri Dhariwal's novels - Man of Her Match is the first one, which I enjoyed but not as much as The Wedding Photographer (basically a big fat Punjabi wedding), which I read first. They're standalone but have characters that link across both. She's only written the two so far though...desperately hoping she comes up with another one soon bc I like her writing style.
Some others, which are basically glorified Mills and Boons (not a complaint...I grew up reading M&B though you do get tired of the endless billionaire princes...where are all these specimens IRL? 😆), that I read recently are from Aditie Banerjee (Wedding Shenanigans) and Alisha Kay (The Maharaja's Fake Fiancee). Both are quippy and banter-filled, though shallow in terms of content. Then again, sometimes that's what you need.
Otherwise, I find that a lot of Indian authors' content is either geared towards the South Asian American experience, which is great but doesn't match mine at all, or they're all about writing heavy LITERARY FICTION about the Indian experience as shaped by colonialism and honestly I'm tired of this idea that Indian lit has to in some way reference or pay homage to the bloody Raj
Or the books are written by Chetan Bhagat, in which case I want nothing to do with them 😆

I've not read it yet but I have one in my Kindle TBR called Excess Baggage - not a rom-com but it's about a Punjabi mother and daughter who are always at odds with each and take a road trip together, a la ZNMD. Sounds fun 😆 Also on my TBR is To Lahore with Love, which is about a Irish-Pakistani woman who has always felt torn between her two halves, and who travels to Lahore after her dad's death, to connect with him through their love of food. Again not a rom-com but seems v. interesting.
There's a couple of upcoming ones I'm hoping will be good: The Shaadi Set-up by Lillie Vale and The Terrible, Horrible, Very Bad Good News by Meghna Pant. The title is odd but apparently it's already been optioned for a movie adaption, to be called Badnaam Ladoo, which honestly sounds way better as a title 😆
I find there are few and far between Indian authors who write "chick lit" (hate the term but for ease of reference), and even fewer who write from a British Indian perspective (which is obviously closer to my frame of reference than the American experience). There's a lot of amazing Korean-American, Black, and other ownvoices work out there now, so I hope Indian authors also bring something more to the party.
LOL at the looooooooong comment...clearly I needed to get this off my chest. And you did ask 🤣
