I have my dad’s cousin here. Uncle and aunt worked on labor jobs. In stores and gas stations. And yet supported both kids education till they completed masters. Most Indians (again m not generalizing) know how to survive on less expense and save up.

@green — that’s just taking a wild guess. I am not suggesting lower wages. But this conclusion of yours still doesn’t prove that lot of lazy people enjoy on unemployment money rather than working.

$600 pandemic unemployment only lasted for 3 or 4 months, not a year. So you're saying out of $2400 a month, they used only $1500 and that covered all their expenses including rent, food, utilities, etc. That leaves only $900 a month for 4 months. So they had saved $3600 and they had no worries at all about how they would survive after the unemployment ends? Instead, they "invested" $3600 in a house in India. What house in India comes for $3600? Please let me know so I could buy a few.

This makes about as much sense as your claim that someone cunning and lazy worked for 3 weeks and quit in order to collect unemployment. It just does not work that way.

I'm always amazed that people get so bitter and jealous about people on the lower end getting a helping hand. But the ugly billionaires who've scammed society, hardly paid their fair share of taxes, use an army of lawyers to flout rules and build hideous mansions are applauded. But god forbid someone gets a few hundred dollars of help. I mean what if they buy houses out of that enormous windfall of freebies (aka *taxes they've paid into*)??? Gasp.

$600 a week for one person. $5000 for 2 for a month. Take off $1500, that leaves $3500 for almost 6 months. That’s some 15 lakhs. In a tier 2 city, that’s half the amount to invest in a house.

I don’t think so everyone pays taxes. And I m not bitter. You people are so rattled that from 2 days all I have got is personal attacks. Lol.

You don't even know basic facts. $600 was for about 4 months from April through July. That's if their unemployment started exactly in April or else it would be less. First you claimed they got it for a year and now it's changed to 6 months. Except it never existed for more than 4 months in the first place. And I'm to believe now BOTH were unemployed exactly in April. What was their plan once the unemployment ran out? Would a job immediately be dumped into their lap? It's not usually that easy but maybe we should all move where they live where jobs come immediately when you want them and full expenses including rent, food, utilities, etc. only costs $1500.

You do not become eligible for unemployment unless you've worked 20+ weeks in the base year. That means you have to pay unemployment taxes for at least 20 weeks before unemployment benefits will be triggered. So yes, everyone pays those taxes.

It takes a special kind to be upset about working class people getting some help during a freaking pandemic. And that too all based on hearsay that doesn't even make sense.

The biggest tax frauds in America are billionaires. Most working class people have paid more tax in this country while working than Donald Trump .

They are a scourge with their armies of lobbyists and lawyers constantly on Capitol Hill coaxing congressmen to vote for bills that deprive the poor and middle-class while they build their wealth. And instead of being mad at them, the middle-class will be mad at the poor instead. That's the level of brainwashing people have had where all the hate and frustration is directed towards people who have even less than them.

And btw, in all this OmG tHe FrEebIEs outrage, it's cute how it's not being mentioned how much money the rich got out of the pandemic bills. My uncles own motels/hotels (hundreds of them) and they got MILLIONS in PPE loans - the ones where there is loan forgiveness so they don't have to pay back the money as long as they maintain 80% of their employees. They made so much money they bought more motels. The actual big businesses got even more money. All the initial relief money was swiped by them so that the little mom and pop businesses couldn't get their hands on any of it.

You know who always benefits the most out of these relief bills? Rich people. Always. Meanwhile the ignorant middle-class sits whining and moaning about someone they know getting a few hundred dollars in unemployment so they can have some relief during a pandemic. Please open your eyes and learn more about how the world works instead of wasting your time on petty jealousy of small things the poor get.
