Yup kinda kinda, they have Similar functions.

But barrister is a British term, lawyers in India are not called as barristers generally. Barristers are the ones who are enrolled with the Bar of England.🤣

Pre independent era mein yahan bhi barristers hi bolte the, because of British influence ofcourse. But now the term is not prevalent here.
