Not exactly what I had in mind but that can be it too. If in public, infront of both villages, she is made to stand infront of him, he cannot back out nor look away because it is the matter of life and death for his family and village.

Tabhi to main bol rhi hoon, Ani ke liy itni badhi baat nhi hogi ki bon is in love with him as he himself gave her the permission to choose whoever she feels in future, which includes him as well. Ab makers apne iss scene ko bhool jaye to alag baat h.

The makers wont take away the emotional reunion we all deserve because they have built up these two meeting face to face to such a paramount hype now that they cannot marr it with ITV cliches.
