She’s improved over the years but she has her limitations which are major and recently has tried to do movies hitting above her weight that haven’t worked e.g Fitoor.

She was the only good thing about Zero. Is good in the Tiger films and was decent in ZNMD. Basically she needs directors who can work around her limitations or those films that her accent and things can be ignored New York, ZNMD etc. Sometimes that doesn’t work with films like Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

And also Bharat which really needed an authentic Indian actress for her part!

Oh yeah, Bharat too... I get they were in a tight spot because of PC leaving last minute but surely they could’ve moved around the schedules brought themselves more time and got someone else, for me Vidya Balan would’ve been perfect. If not her then someone from Salman’s clique would’ve been decent too Sonakshi, Daisy etc, they would’ve done the role easily as well.

She improved a lot over the years though, n sometimes she showed promise n potential but quite inconsistent, some parts she does fine but some totally flat

she was quite good in Bharat I felt

and also i really liked her in New York(probably cause of the storyline n characterization 😆)

Not really. I think it's that she's SO bad in general that when she performs even slightly better than that, people go gaga. The bar is in the basement for her. In this case, she was basically playing out her own life story. Anand Rai probably got to her enough that she took out her anger/sadness about Ranbir.

Her expressions are decent sometimes but she's never going to be outright good because she refuses to learn the language so she misses all the nuances and barely knows what she's saying. And who can blame her? Indians worship whiteness and her being foreign is a great attribute to her which she never wants to lose. She will keep separating herself from the pack by being too high and mighty to really learn Hindi. Just the way many Indians also separate themselves by faking their accents and making themselves sound more Western even though they live in India.

Nah I genuinely thought she was good in Zero and it wasn't necessarily in comparison to the bad performances she's done in other movies. I thought she objectively did really well. But as I said, I think she has the potential to do well in very specific roles that cater to her strengths. Anand Rai managed to do it. He got her to loosen up onscreen, take risks, and lose her perfect-girl image. I wonder if she is capable of doing similar characters like that one, ones that force her to drop her walls and facades and give in to the chaos. Maybe. Who knows. But Zero made me wonder. Maybe try a crazed psychotic character and truly give in to it.

I don't disagree with you on her lack of Hindi skills. She really should have worked super duper hard on that one thing. It would've automatically lifted up all her performances. We all know how hard working she is and how dedicated she is...the woman's got a great work ethic. Learning hindi well shoud've been a top priority. But maybe it's just too hard a language for her. Learning is tough as it is and speaking in the ethnic accent is even more difficult. Plus accents aren't easy to everyone. Deepika, no matter what character she plays, has the same heavy south Indian accent in everything and I don't think it's a lack of not trying but a plain lack of ability. With Katrina and one look at her career and popularity you see it's not a necessity for her anyway... as you said, the whiteness is what people drool over.

I’m only saying her name if it had to be one of Salman’s posse 😆I think she would’ve done it, it’s a Salman film where he’s always the dominant character most of the times so she may have pulled through at least the accent would be be a glaring distraction, if we forget about Race 3 where everyone was a disaster she may have done an OkIsh job
