I usually avoid watching palace dramas, this is the only one that I saw. I am not really fond of Qing dynasty period.

Usually historical based Cdrama are mostly tragic, so avoid them, prefer their costume fantasy or modern dramas which are light & fluff.

If you're comfortable with harem concept then try watching,

Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace - shares the same characters but different actors as Yanxi Palace.

The Sword and The Brocade.

Renascence.

Under the Power - doesn't have harem but I enjoyed watching this.

Serenade of Peaceful Joy

Maiden Holmes - no harem

The Legend of Hao Lan

The Story of Ming Lan

I am not too much into harem political dramas.this one I enjoyed first half a lot coz of a clever FL..second half when she becomes consort, I am not that interested yet. I loved the tension between emperor and the FL in the earlier episodes.

Looks like Chinese govt is having big time crackdown on entertainment industry . Kris Wu, Zhang zehan and so many more. One popular actress also got banned .
