Because it's understandable for people to support a sane person which Mastani wasn't. Bajirao never knew that in Bundelkhand, one could get married by just giving his dagger. Even though he fell in love, he never proposed marriage to her. But Mastaani on the other hand, took the dagger as a sign of marriage and got married to Bajirao in her mind and bam, she suddenly arrives in Pune as Bajirao's wife all in her head.🤓 Who would support such a crazy person irrespective of how good a warrior she was? How tf do you get married in your head and then arrive in someone else's house and declare yourself as Baji's second wife? Bajirao wasn't good either with his relationships so it was very understandable for Kashi to be mad at both of them and the audience feeling empathy for her instead of Mastani. But well whatever we saw in the film is the director's version so I don't know whether the kataar part was real or just the director's figment of imagination knowing the director's track record.

Also you're underestimating Kashibai wayy too much by saying she neither had skills, aspirations or self worth. She was Peshwinbai. She used to look after the administration while Bajirao was away at wars. It was because of her administration skills of running day to day business in Pune that Bajirao had the goodwill with people. That's a HUGE skill in itself and in no way less than that of a warrior. Kashibai was a big part of Bajirao's life not just as a a wife but also as a partner in running the city and looking after it's people. Not just that, even after Bajirao and Mastani's death, she adopted Mastani's son as her own and raised him to make a warrior. Enough reasons to like Kashibai over cray Mastani.

What is this “stole a man” “homewrecker”?

The only person who had right on Bajirao was Bajirao, himself, Kashi had relationship with him, he fell for Mastani, how is she homewrecker? How can one steal a man?

Kashi was a dutiful wife and she had morals, No questions there, okay

Mastani came from a culture where polygamy was a norm, How is it immoral for her?

Krishna, husband of Rukmani practiced polygamy because Marriage was an alliance to strengthen kingdoms that’s why Rukmani never said she wanted to be in place of Radha

Its like watching Ekta Kapoor show, Sindoor ki takat, shadi ek pavitra bandhan, pati ko Chori karne Wali vamp

Was Kashi more than someone who got cheated on?

Why both women are reduced to wives and marriage when the whole story has much more to offer?

Mastani was a warrior when women walked in Pardas, but all the discussion is around her act of stealing Kashibai’s favorite playtoy

I agree with you last paragraph

She had skills, she was lady of her house and managed her people, I am not underestimating her, if this is her description then I love her, but the discussion around her is all about being cheated on and losing her pride because of her husband’s marriage with Mastani

She was much more than a wife

Mastani was much more than a wife and a homewrecker, Bajirao accepted her as his wife and fell in love with her, how did she break someone’s home? Bajirao had the responsibility of protecting his “home” not Mastani

She hailed from a culture where polygamy was a norm, her actions were part of her cultural norms

It is lazy writing to write every historical female character as a warrior princess/queen to show that she's 'strong'. Nevermind whether the said female has ever held a sword in real life or not. Today if we're making a movie about Sita , Draupadi , or say Jehangir's wife Noor Jehan , it wouldn't matter that all these women have different characters -yet have proved their strength, endurance and cleverness in a hundred different ways. They will be wielding swords and kicking asses in their films to 'prove' that they are strong. Look at what Jodhaa, Mastani and even Parvatibai from Panipat. And this is a very Western way of perceiving strength and quite wrong. Bajirao-Mastani was written in such a way as to justify their love. Kashi's role was barely more than a cameo. It says much of Priyanka's skill that she was able to depict so much from so little material to show Kashi's feelings clearly.I somehow doubt the real Bajirao sat around whining about his family's unwillingness to accept Mastani while the enemies were at the gates.

So it's perfectly alright to try to get a married man to fall in love with you? I'm sorry, but that's being a homewrecker.

Agreed

Story had much more to offer

I haven’t read the actual story, I don’t even know if it is real or fictional so people who read about it can explain if she was a warrior or not

Sita wasn’t a warrior same goes for Draupadi

@Bold

Ikr 🤣

Too much importance to romantic relationship when story should have been explored in different ways

I can’t say anything on this because I have never been in the situation where I had to make a decision, I believe that relationship between two people can be broken by them. Third person can never break a relationship

And I think it's a good enough reason for many people to dislike her!

That's because you're seeing their story with the lens of today. But back then, marriages and relationships mattered a lot more than how it is today. Monogamy was of prime importance back then and also part of their culture. Also like I said, she was Peshwinbai so she wasn't just a wife. She was wife of a Peshwa. That in itself made her a social figure that people back then would look upto.

A princess from a completely different place suddenly arriving out of nowhere and declaring her love to a much married Peshwa in front of his people would hurt the pride of anyone at Kashibai's place at first. Also we are forgetting that both Kashibai and Bajirao were married since they were children. They had a very successful marriage (The fact that Bajirao was monogamous until Mastani arrived) speaks a lot of their marriage. So it would really be heartbreaking for someone like Kashi to see Bajirao accepting Mastani. I don't think she even cared much for Mastani. She was more hurt from Bajirao.

Also I don't agree that she lost her pride. Instead, from the part in the film where she welcomes Mastaani to Mastaani Mahal and her private talk with Bajirao, she infact actually uses her pride to give a no nonsense ending to her relationship with Bajirao and by deciding that she will now be only doing her duty as a Peshwinbai and nothing else. And if you look into history, she actually continued being a good administrator till the time she left for pilgrimage and passed away. So even though the Guroor dialogue kinda signals that she lost her pride, to me it didn't.
