Is it actually like this?

I’ve seen a lot of glorification of joint families on itv, and I think what they show is wrong. Being an elder person doesn’t make you immune from criticism or being wrong. Also it doesn’t mean that an individual couple can’t take their own call. Showing that in a join family only one two people take a call for everyone is very regressive and showing the wrong things.

I too belong to a nuclear family. My grand parents had always maintained curtain norms in my family.But have NOT seen such weird practice over a gift 😕.

Sorry to say they have insulted d concept of joint family infact ITV mostly insult d concept of joint family.

I m from joint family its not that difficult to live in joint family.

Regarding gift there is no rule that only one gift will be send from one family.

Exactly I don’t live in a joint family but even I can see they’re showing nonsense

It's definitely not like how they show in shows like this. Yeah elders will be consulted or informed but the kinda tyranny and belittling happens here, doesn't happen. Soap writers just create the drama for trp audience. Joint families might have some small tiffs and household politics, but no one behaves like the tyrannical elders like they show here. If they do couples eventually go separate unlike here.

True. I lived in a joint family both at my parents and in laws house. I agree there would be petty issues but this gifting expensive saree is a very very silly issue I have never seen. Regifting is very common thing which I or my mother or my in law does. Small issues like we have to tell everyone where we are going, when we are coming back or if we buy anything we have to buy everyone do occur. But these Chavans make every non issue an issue and name it as rule of joint family 😡🤦‍♀️
