They have in Imlie - cooled down Adilie romance after the suicide attempt and it is more prominent from Adi's side. Seems like it was not this way in IK. I wonder why?

Shoddy writing or intentionally for some ourpose. After the ILU scene Adi not even reacting further - seems to overall not value Imlies' ILU.

I have been ranting ke atif’s ‘want to justify adilie romance’ is a bad sign the moment he said it and wahi hua lol, cuts anything to do with giving their relationship substance and baaki dd scenes glorified ya phir idhar udhar ke stretched. Dude may be a good showrunner and far better than gul’s others but I am damn sure he does not see the story the way we do

If he wants to justify it - then he needs to give them good scenes and build their connect na...not abruptly end their scenes?

I feel almost like Adi has been told specifically don't show too much emotion...keep it cool! Esp if you watch some of the earlier scenes. I understand we don't want to see a majnu Adi all the time ... they are in a different phase - but its not like they have been married for ages either. His reactions to Imlie seem so controlled to me overall - even when he saw her playing Flames - shouldnt there have been a momentary satisfaction that she sees them as a pair esp after all his frustration at her not acknowledging the relationship.

One explanation can be - that they intend to have some intent to amp up the connect and therefore are choosing to underplay it for now. Need to wait for that. At least last week 3 days episodes were pretty good. If they continue with this - I will be fine - even if they dont continue scenes they should. These episodes were far better than the previous 30 or so episodes put together.
