Hmm.. my family is restrictive in the sense that don’t

go out in the dark. But that’s for safety reasons. Guy friends.. my family should know the guy.. and only then. Waise I have only one best guy friend and kisi aur ke saath I never went out..

But I think it’s about being protective; not conservative, you know how unsafe Delhi is.

My family wants me to make a bf though .. they are tired of me rejecting guys 🤣

This is a current phenomenon that rich are being liberal but that is not the norm. In some rich families, due to education and exposure to a different cultures, travel they become liberal. But there are many rich families who call them khandani and take pride in having housewives as DIL. Attitude is "hum apne ghar ke aurton see kam nai karwate"🤢

But historically, upper caste and rich families were conservative in India especially towards women. Like Brahmins and Kshtriyas were very conservative for their women. Sati was common in upper-caste rich families, widow remarriage, working women are not allowed in those families. In Rajputs, ghonghat is still prevalent. But the lower, middle class did not have those traditions. Working women were common in middle class as it is also needed for them. They adopted it later due to many other social factors. But when middle class climb the ladder they adopt rich and influential people's traditions.

In India we have very complex society with such a deep-rooted casteism.

You are so right. Among Brahmins women were treated worse.. and in many places they still are.

Higher castes are very ritualistic and become super protective about their honour, so the burden falls on women then. Being a widow among upper castes was the hardest. Such a restrictive life.

my grandmother told me to get a bf when I joined college and my reply was, dadi padne ja rahi hun, sar dard palne nahi..

And frankly, there was no bf material in my college that I came across
