Chapter 3 :
Gadchiroli :
"Sai bada! Don't know how the weekend gets easily finished with you. Sometimes it really feels like I should go to Nagpur with youâŚ" Kamal Joshi was complaining to his daughter who was packing as she had to go to Nagpur.
"Baba! I always tell you to take VRS and settle down in Nagpur! Why don't you listen to me?" Sai spoke as she went to take her books from the table.
"Sai! You know na I can't take VRS as of now as I have important work!" Kamal Joshi felt sudden anger at remembering the important work, "But I promise! I'll visit you in Nagpur soon." Kamal replied to her.
Suddenly, something struck in his mind as he continued, "Sai, since your semester breaks will start from next month, I'll go and fetch you from there. Hopefully ACP sir will be able to take the duty properly by that time. " Kamal Joshi gleamed as he proposed the idea.
"Okay Baba" Sai accepted her father's proposal.
"By the way Aaba! Is the new ACP a toddler?" Sai enquired as she was keeping the clothes inside the suitcase.
"Why are you asking this Sai? He's in his late twenties " Kamal Joshi replied but he was a bit curious too.
"Actually, I thought he's a toddler who needs time to understand everything because you're telling you'll visit your daughter if he takes the duty properly .." Sai rolled her eyes as she continued to pack.
"Oh wait! Isn't he an UPSC topper? And UPSC toppers aren't that dumb for sure. " Sai giggled as she continued to speak.
"SaiâŚ" Kamal Joshi answered in a grave tone, "Bada! You need to know that he'll be new in our area and I, as a mentor and a senior inspector, have to give him a tour of Gadchiroli and explain to him the problems here. " Kamal Joshi answered.
"Still Aaba!" Sai whined, "it won't take more than 15 days for sure to explain all the things. Promise me! You'll come to Nagpur to fetch me next month." Sai asked for a promise as she opened her palm.
"Ho Majhi Aai.. Promise!" Kamal Joshi promised by keeping his palm on her.
Sai squealed in happiness as she hugged her Aaba and took the suitcase out.
"Bye Aaba! Bye Usha Maushi!" She bade them
bye and left for Nagpur.
Nagpur :
"Godu, why didn't you tell earlier that you've to report on Wednesday?" Ashwini asked her son while checking her purse for something.
"Aai! DCP Sawant only called me this morning and ordered me to report on Wednesday." Virat told her mother as they continued to walk on the footpath.
"Still you should have come to shop for the necessary items earlier only. Now what if you forgot something to pack?" Ashwini replied checking the list worriedly to see if anything is missing or not as she continued to scold Virat.
"Aai! Aai! Calm down! Everything will be alright!" Virat tried to assure his mother.
"What calm down! You didn't do anything earlier and are now telling me to calm down." Ashwini panicked.
"Aai. Don't worry! Let us go to that shop." Virat took Ashwini inside the shop.
On the other side, two girls were coming from the other side of the road.
"Sai! Thank you for accompanying me ha! I totally forgot about this. " The girl thanked Sai .
"No worries Priya! After all, a friend in need is a friend indeed . " Sai replied to the girl happily as they entered a different shop.
After sometime, Virat came outside the shop to get something else whereas Ashwini was still inside the shop. He went to a different place to get it.
There, Sai also came out of the shop to go to the ice cream stall. She got herself an ice cream and when she was about to have it, collided with someone and her ice cream fell down on the ground. And the person was none other than Virat.
Virat, who was walking to the other side of the road and bowed his head to check something in pocket, realised that he collided with someone. He was about to say sorry to that person when he heard screaming of a girl running towards him.
"Sor-" Virat couldn't complete his sentence as Sai came angrily towards him or charged towards him.
"What sorry...YouâŚYou.. didn't let me enjoy my ice-cream." Sai angrily accused Virat.
"Excuse me! I mean how can I? I am sorry for that collision..but how didn't I let you enjoy your ice cream?" Virat tried to enquire calmly.
"You..you.. since you collided with me, you're responsible for this. " Sai implicated in anger.
"Excuse me! I'm saying I'm sorry for the collision, that doesn't mean you'll accuse me with such baseless assumptions." Virat's voice too rose this time.
"What do you mean by baseless assumptions?" Sai too raised her voice with him.
"Your ice cream fell, it's not my fault!! You should have been more careful rather than accusing me. " Virat too didn't stop this time.
"It was you who were careless, not me!" Sai too retorted.
"Ugh.. Why am I even talking to you?" Virat got fed up with the argument. "Listen your ice cream fell na, let me buy you one ." Virat offered Sai. .
"Uhhh. Same question of mine too. Why am I talking to you too ?" Sai gave back. " And listen, no need to offer me anything! I can buy it myself. Bappa!! My day got ruined." Sai crankily replied as she went ahead without caring about Virat!
"Insolent girl!" Virat thought in his mind and went away.
"Ill-mannered boy!" Sai thought as she went away!!
Gadchiroli (Wednesday) :
"Kale! Hurry up! Do it fast!" Kama Joshi ordered Kale who was getting late in arranging the files.
"Ho sir!" Kale tried to do the things hurriedly.
"Sir will be here in some time and you still didn't arrange them nicely. Hurry up!" Kamal Joshi hurriedly went inside the cabin to see if everything was okay or not.
"I hope sir's quarter is arranged properly and all the things are kept accordingly" Kamal Joshi was thinking when suddenly heard his colleagues shouting, "Jai Hind!" Upon realising who might be, Kamal Joshi almost ran towards the main area to see his favourite student standing there with a posture of a police officer..
He hurriedly greeted him but could not stop feeling proud at his student who had now become his senior.
