OMG I remember when I was a kid, I went for swimming lessons. The first day the instructor picked me up, threw me across the pool and asked me to swim. I was terrified!
Decided to learn to swim myself and I did a pretty good job of it but I had to talk myself out of my fear. I stayed in the shallow side for several months, didn't care what others said, until I was comfortable going in the deep end.
Humans and majority of the animals instinctively know swimming. We literally swim in amniotic fluid for 9 months before being born. Later this instinct goes and we have to learn it as a skill
