While I agree with the points you have stated wrt Virat’s character.. but how I would put this is that he is not the perfect, ideal ML. He is flawed.. and so are almost all the characters, including Sai. It is more about who has more flaws here. There are people who behave without morals. They are the negative or dark characters. While grey who can chose to be selfish may behave in certain way. But here we are talking about people who have their morals intact but the way they perceive and react to different situations is what changes our outlook towards them. Its not because they are selfish or wicked in their ways, they are good at heart and have good intentions, but its certain weakness that gives way to their behaviour/reaction
He's not a bad guy. Just incredibly dumb and unaware of his surroundings. Devyani's being drugged and imprisoned under his nose, and he never thinks to check what's happening. Pakhi's obviously trying to seduce him, but he has no clue of her motivations, despite them being telegraphed completely. Has no idea his family is a gang of criminals. Easily duped by letter.
Also weak on his principles. Omkar admitted to a crime, but it's cool because he's family. Two days later, he's vocal and strutting again. Also the Pakhi stuff already mentioned, using wishy washy unsure language about why Sai should be at the hospital. Abusing Sai a second time after promising not to the first time.
Why did they make him an IPS officer? He could've just been some regular IT guy, and all this can be believable. But the fact that he's weak on things an IPS officer should be strong on (except shooting criminals), makes this extra unbelievable.
It'll be tough to fully respect the character until he figures out what's under his nose. Come on writers.
