It might sound that I am repeating it but if she herself couldn't say no then why expect him to say no on her behalf ? 🤔 Actually she again wanted to dominate him "I am saying go tell the villagers you don't want to marry me and that's how it should be." Had she refused no one would have forced her. Why expect Virat to do what she can't do herself. 🤔
Hey,
I understand your point but I have a slightly different view
I believe both were forced but Virat took a conscious, informed decision. So Virat is wiser in age & stature. If he would have refused Villagers couldn’t have forced him again. They hold no right over him. They can’t compel him like Sai. Even if Virat refused they would have married Sai off to someone else. Sai would have been more submissive because of courtesy and obligation towards the villagers. She’s young & not earning, she would have been a burden on them. She herself wouldn’t have preferred that. Virat’s’No’ matters to villagers because Sai can be convinced into an yes by them for whatever affiliation they have towards her. Plus her helplessness as an orphan in that context matters. I remember her saying to Virat she can’t say No to villagers because she values them a lot & even if she says no they won’t listen to her. Looking from the Villagers pov they did love Sai but they thought a marriage is the most secure way for her future. She wouldnt have been able to fight them. Like may be she could have strictly refused to KJ because thats her father & the freedom to refuses comes with it. But here for the villagers Shes already a burden. She really couldn’t choose.
But Virat wasn’t bound by these constraints except for KJ’s promise- which wasn’t to marry her but take care of her. Villagers interpreted it differently & he gave in because ultimately he cared for her future & safety. But he could have refused. If he refused marriages wouldn’t have happened. As far as Sai’s refusal if not this some ones else would have married her sooner or later. What Sai said is right hes an IPS officer he can’t forced to do something. Keeping apart the villagers pressure I believe he took a fully conscious, informed decision. I think the expectations come from the fact that he’s 27-28, an IPS officer, more mature & not bound by wishes of villagers whereas has nothing to weigh her decision on- she’s an orphan, just 18, jagtap fear is still fresh, she’s already a burden to villagers & is bound by the well-wishers opinions.
I hope I made sense:)
