Yes, it would have been a perfect promo–right amount of drama, suspense and preaching that TRP audience would have loved.

Also it spoke about an important topic, that a woman feels compelled to follow her husband due to dependancy, sometimes even compromising her self-respect in the bargain, but that is something that should not be taken for granted. Would make for a standing ovation in the BreakTheLoop series that SP was trying to propagate this year for Women's Day!

I was in awe of Aai today. I don't remember the last time someone did such a daring act on ITV. She just defied all the rules and norms of "sanskaar" which Indian TV swears by. How many times have we seen women on TV being abused, humiliated, threatened and treated like doormats to protect their suhaag ki nishaani? How many women have been forced into marriage against their consent because accidentally or not, a pinch of sindoor fell on their head from the hands of some "man"? How many times have we seen women having to prove themselves through some ridiculous, abusive agnipareeksha because she is threatened she'd lose her right to her man's sindoor? Isn't there a currently airing show where two women are fighting for the same man because one has right over his sindoor and the other for his mangalsutra and they spend hours debating which is important than the other?

Not to mention, the infamous "ek chutki sindoor ki keemat tum kya jaane ramesh babu" dialogue. Well, Aai just declared today that sindoor ki keemat means nothing if it is used to threaten women into submission. I'm not invalidating the sentiments behind them nor offending their religious significance, but such cultural symbols denoting the marital status of women have been used for centuries to suppress them. They have normalised the idea that suhaag ki nishaani is the most important thing in a woman's life and a woman without it – a widow, an unmarried woman or a woman denied of those because she's been "disobedient"or "unruly"–are worthless in the society, basically associating a woman's identity to the man she's married to. Aai is right, why do not men have any of these visual markers to denote their marital status? And if they had one, would women be able to threaten them the same way? Well, probably not, if we go by the same logic of –if men were to menstruate, menstruation wouldn't be even considered as impure in the first place. 👎🏼

I was honestly shocked seeing Aai saying all these out loud, declaring that if Vijay threatens her with her sindoor, mangalsutra and bindi, she'd gladly denounce them and walk out. I was grinning like an idiot seeing Vijay's face at that moment–he was speechless and shocked and had to drop his suicide attempt half way. The best thing about the whole scene was that usually we see the young, modern and educated women giving such progressive speeches once in a blue moon, but here it is the mother-in-law, the eldest woman in the house who questioned the regressive rules and thrashed the ego of the men in the house.

If Star Plus at least cared an iota for their Rishta Wahi Soch Nayi tagline, they should have telecasted this as a promo. Not only would it have grabbed some eyeballs and helped our TRP, it is actually something progressive for a change. What a wasted opportunity!

Bold ... that’s a height.. married because some sindoor accidentally fell on them.🤣. what serial was it?

Ok, maybe I exaggerated a little, 😆 but I was mostly referring to lack of consent and how ITV uses stupid excuses to get the leads married.

But some bizarre examples I can think of are–In show Krishnadasi, this one character makes a fuss about how because the hero's blood fell on the heroine's forehead (his hand was hurt and he basically just pushed her away to save her from goons), they should be considered married. There was a lot of other drama that led to the actual marriage later, but still this one incident led to many "treat-them-like-a-married-couple" scenarios.

In show Jaane Kya Hoga Rama Re, the leads accidentally get married while playing Ram and Sita in a Ramleela performance. After they act out this elaborate wedding sequence of Ram and Sita in the performance, one of the main characters in the story, the organiser of Ramleela, informs them that they're both married now as all the rituals they did were real. I mean

I'm sure there are many other shows, these are the ones I can remember from the top of my head.

Yes, totally agree with you! 👏

I'm sure many women would walk out of abusive, toxic relationships if only they didn't have –dependency on men, financial instability, children, sanskaar, social stigma against divorcees and single women–weighing them down. May be this is too ballsy for SP to promote 😆

Are they not kinda promoting it with Anupamaa tho? The husband may be plain abusive or have an affair, but wife walking out for any reason is against sanskruti. She should sit, cry and win back suhaag 🤦‍♀️

Yeah that's what I meant, SP would never!😵

I haven't watched the show you mentioned, but from whatever I've gathered from it's promos, I agree. ITV want women to forgive their men way too easily.

It's like everyone is so used to BWA's cheap tactics now that they do not bother anymore. And they expect more from Pallavi than Amruta (bahu vs beti), hence the double standards!

That show is showcasing a woman who has been married for 25 years finds out about her husband's 8 year affair and walks out of the relationship finally becoming independant. It is being heavily promoted by SP. Same logic, they need to promote MHRW too then!
