Exactly, idk what the Russos were thinking. Had Peggy not married Dan, Steve going back would make a lot of sense. That she waited for him and did not want to hurt anyone since she wouldn't be able to love someone else.

Although in Endgame, didn't Steve go back before Peggy married Dan? I am not really sure? But then wouldn't there be two Captain Americas in that timeline: one frozen and the other with Peggy? And if there was only one Cap, then would it mean that the Tesseract was never rediscovered, making Endgame null and void? Too many freaking questions!
