I watched this last night and I loooooved it. The simplicity and natural feel of the movie.....kaafi hadh tak old school vibe bhi tha....so many things shown so subtly but so powerfully....especially the different shades of grief and the many shades of human selfishness also....kaise log sway bhi ho jaate hain sometimes apne matlab ya majboori mein. In some ways it reminded me of how Imlie also successfully presents the greys of human behavior for many of the characters - especially Adi.
Ashutosh Rana's acting as the grief-stricken father was on another level.....Sandhya's journey in finding herself in these 13 days of the wake after Astik's death....then all the relatives ke characters, unki baatein.....really well made film. Even woh Nazia ka character was woven into the narrative subtly rather than trying to force it into something more just for the heck of it.....and Shruti was decent there compared to her OTT acting in Nachaniya show.....lol
They didn't use Lamha in the movie....lol so now Lamha will always be associated with your lovely VM for me. And I hope to still vid Thode se kam ajnabi😆
AR was my fav character in the film .. seriously the guy didn't needed a single dialogue and everything came across.one could see him wieghed down by Dunia ke bhoj suddenly and then dealing with the loss of son worrying for sandhya and sticking for his asool.. what a wonderfully written and presented character the one that stays with you after the film is over.. the particular scene where the guy tries to luto him with the gadde and he goes discount nahi maanga.. or the one with sandhya where they are doing hisaab 👏👏 or the one where his wife is like what will we do now and he says tell your guru ji to send Astik back 😭 the helplessness and worry of ab kya Hoga presented just so so so brilliantly...I just loved the subdued way in which the emotions were shown.. everybody having their own fikarein with the death and then how other people who just come for tamasha behave too.. and their actual motive mostly is to either get jaaydaad or baatein banwaana actual main ghanta sympathy hoti hai..
My other fav character was of sandhya's mom how she deprived her of her choti choti khushiyan since being a kid to pursue a good varr and then all that falling apart in a jhatka then her reluctance to take this widowed daughter back home due to other zimmedariyan like the other 2 daughters but how that suddenly changes with the insurance money.. again nothing unrealistic there but grey ...she had a point before she had a point after this is unfortunately the samaj we live in.. 😔 karna padta hai aise to survive and live among this very society.. I liked that it was not in a preachy way either that is the best part of the film
Yup shruti was actually pleasant I kinda forgot after a while ke yeh nachaniya hai she looked better too normal si.. Sanya was so so good so was sayani.. the girls are so pretty and so talented and it is just so good to see them get these projects I would take these girls over the same old same old ek jaise dikhne wali ladkiyan otherwise..
I loved that they never showed us astik and in that way we were like sandhya too totally unaware and ajnabi to him.. sandhya ka realization was well-done too..now I read people having issues with why sandhya took the responsibility of his parents she shouldn't have and shouldn't have given them the money well mere liye this is the most appropriate ending.. she found her freedom but never gave up the zimmedari caz technically it does come to her after their son was gone and they didn't do anything wrong with her..I was actually so happy to see their genuine concern for sandhya after ashtik passed away like when AR'S CHARACTER gets mad at his wife ke how could you just go and put rishta ki offer to her without soche samjhe.. they did treated her like beti so why can't she do both have her freedom and nibhao the zimmedari.. after all they were indeed old nice people dealing with loss and uncertainty and family toh sandhya ka hi rahega na still even if she does remarry woh ek connect toh rahega anyway.. I am more inclined towards desi thinking in that way mujhe yeh sab rishte nate tod do samjh nahi aata in order to find azaadi mere liye it was the apt ending..
Oh and yes I have fallen more for thode se kam ajnabi
