Is Thappad really that great to win best film? It was a content film but was still rejected by the audience as it didn't get a good word-of-mouth.
In my opinion, Ludo was the best film of 2020, followed by Tanhaji.
Tapsee getting best actress award is well deserving though.

It was not rejected. It made over 30 crore at the domestic box office and 44 crores globally, even though the film had no stars apart from Taapsee, that too with a niche subject, especially when covid was looming large. It may not be a blockbuster but it's indeed an undeniable success.

Yeah they have biases against content films and against and for certain actors
They say budget 24cr , net gross India 29.7c, WW gross 43.775.
I doubt Thappad had such large distributor fees to make it across the board unprofitable for distributors though it probably did better in the urban centers.
If this was an SRK film it would be labeled a hit đ
