First of all, Shaurya this is for you: 🤬💣🔪🏺🏏🏑🏒🏓🥊🩴👞👟🥾🥿👠👡🩰👢📌✂️🔨🪓⛏⚒🛠🗡⚔🪚🔧🥥

I absolutely hated what he said and he deserves some serious gallis, jootes and everything that hurts! Please shower some jhootes and gallis when you reply here.😃

"Bade logon ki choti soch, ek aam baat hain

Khaas baat to tab hogi, jab ek aam ladki ki badi soch inse takaar legi"

This was the tagline of the show, it's very premise. The episode today and the one tomorrow and countless other episodes in the future will be there to highlight the difference in badi vs chotti soch, the difference in ideologies.

Am I disappointed in Shaurya as a character: No.

Am I disappointed in the makers: No.

Was this character butchering: Not according to me.

Was this done for some drama quotient: No.

Am I angry with Shaurya: Yes, very.

Let me explain:

He did not disappoint me as a misogynist character. Trust me, I hate the words he used. But, I am more disappointed in the imaginary portrait that I, and many others, have built of Shaurya. In the past weeks, we've seen sides of him that have made us sympathise and understand him - sides that have made me question the tagline - Is he really a misogynist, I have asked myself this question a lot of times in the past few weeks. And I got my answer today. Yes, he is. And No, he is not going to change so fast, so soon. He was never meant to be Prince charming or a Knight in Shining armor and the episode showed me, he is not. He has a lot to unlearn and re-learn and that will start tomorrow.

Now, how do I blame the makers for this, how do I call this character butchering just to increase drama when the show came with a warning: that the Male Lead is not your typical bad guy with a soft heart who will manhandle the heroine, instead he is a grey character with a "chotti soch" and he will hurt the heroine with his ideologies and beliefs. No wonder we are so repulsed by what we have seen today, but this isn't this what we were promised in the promos?

Of course, I get that we've showered lots of love on Shaurya the past days and so, the Shaurya today is a bitter pill to swallow. However, I've always felt that as much as the soft side is a part of him, this ugly side is a part of him as well, and so, his ugly side will be as ugly, as his soft side is beautiful. His misogyny was never going to be restricted to his attitude about woman unable to balance the home and career, it was always going to lurk and show up through his relations with woman.

I don't know if you guys remember, but when Astha was in hospital and Shaurya went to visit, he mentioned something along the lines of, Astha called Shaan and got herself admitted to such a good hospital with luxurious facilities when she couldn't handle it herself. The belief, and ingrained it is, that working women from humble background would not hesitate to leave their family for their career, but when in financial difficulty those women would cling on the same family for support was there, loud and clear. It was a similar situation today but was made more potent with his choice of words. He knows that Anokhi is an achiever and has an intense desire for being educated and following her dreams, however, he also thinks that she is trying to keep a back up in the form of rich man.

His jealousy was there, obviously, but it was not the reason why he said the things he did. He spewed the nonsense because he believed in them. His jealousy was only a catalyst for him to reveal his true side.

The motive of this post is not to justify Shaurya, but simply to show that he has always been like that. He has been socialised like that from a very young age, the belief and attitude he holds towards woman has been inculcated in him, by his family, and it's surfacing now. A major part of what we become in later life is due to our socialisation period, where values and norms become a part of our psyche and prompt us to behave in the way we do.

It's interesting that both of our leads are part of very patriarchal households, but one chose to rebel, while the other chose to accept and perpetuate. The difference though, is in mentality - shaped by society and the immediate environment. And this is what the show is about, I believe. Just like Astha has been the light in Anokhi's life, and has been a part of her socialisation process. The lightstick has been passed. So, now it is Anokhi who will be the light to his ugly side and will be part of his re-socialisation process which will lead to a change in his belief system. Anokhi will not be his rehab centre, but instead would be the mirror that he needed. She will not heal him, she will show him how to heal himself.

Dittoooo😂

I said same previously but cant write this long😂

Last episode built some goody goody angel figure of shaurya which he was never! He has some serious ideologies in which i find some ok and some highly not ok!

Its not against his character, story, or even plot. It was bound to happen and i can see more potential in him.

And as KV said k he took the show becoz their will be progression in his thoughts! For that they have to first show what his thoughts are actually!

Wow! This is an amazing post and my thoughts are also along the same lines. Especially this:

"His jealousy was there, obviously, but it was not the reason why he said the things he did. He spewed the nonsense because he believed in them. His jealousy was only a catalyst for him to reveal his true side."

Today’s episode brought the crux of the show to the forefront, this clash of soch is what the promos promised and that is exactly what we are being served. The reason it is challenging to come to terms with this side of Shaurya is because the world is not made of good people and misogynists. Misogyny is a social conditioning that not many have escaped, even those of us who believe in equality have internalised patrichial notions that we are constantly coming to terms with because ideological growth is ever evolving even in real life or especially in real as we are constantly evolving and understanding what is ok and what is not ok. It is in something as simple as reflecting on a show we used to watch and why it is toxic? Our own thoughts as viewers have shaped up for the better which is why we expect better content from what we watch now.

Also the last part about Anokhi being the mirror and not rehab centre is so true because she is not going to heal him with her love🤢 but only fall for him when he proves himself worthy of her and that is not going to happen unless his "soch" changes. And she would take on his soch by the horns irrespective of whether or not he is her romantic interest because this is the kind BS she is against and fought her whole life.

Shaurya deserves all those things you have posted at the beginning to be thrown right where it hurts the most!

God bless you for making this post because I didnt know how to pen this down exactly.

I always knew the promos were never misleading. They kind of told us what we were getting into since the beginning.

What I like is, this show is here for challenging this mentality and not encourage it. So I am sure the realisation and the apology part would be strong.

And I blv Anokhi will give it back to Shaurya in her own way. I wont mind hearing her lecture him this time and wont even appreciate his continue continue.

Now Let's wait for tomorrow and see what else he speaks.

Yup

They have set this storyline up since the beginning of the show

This behaviour is not all justified but not even OOC for shaurya.

He has a long way to go.

He said to Aastha that words don’t come out of your mouth just like that. Their is some soch and reason behind it. So definitely it is his soch

Glad you echo the same thoughts. Writing long essays is just an occupational hazard🤣

I do believe that the Shaurya we saw on Saturday is an integral part of SS. But this Shaurya we saw today is also an undeniable part him. It's just that we've build a lot expectations based on what we saw in the past 2 weeks and so we we saw today was difficult to digest.

Oh yeah, he definitely have ideology issues, which he would need to outgrow with time.

Since character development is a major part of this show, im hoping a strong challenge to his ideology in the form of Anokhi

Eager for that actually🤞

How beautifully you penned this. I absolutely agree with every word of it. One thing I would like to point out is the feeling of repulsion and anger that all fans are feeling is unanimous. Even the stauch Shaurya's supporters are pointing out that it is unacceptable. Like you said we are recognising the patterns and instead of blindly accepting it, we have raised our voice against it. Like I've always said, the problem is not in the fact that these attitudes are being portrayed, because, heck people like Shaurya are everywhere, the problem is brushing it under the carpet, which many shows are guilty of.

If Shaurya's misogynist voice was strong today, I want Anokhi's challenge to be stronger; be it in her reply tomorrow or in the whatever action she is going to take afterwards. And I think she is on the right track since she plans to prove her point before leaving that institute.

That is why I want Shaurya to fall first, to be tormented with his ideologies and to break the shackles before Anokhi can even start to think of him as a love interest. It's him who has to prove that he is worthy of her. Even when she forgives him after all of this...she'll do it because he is nothing to her at this point, and frankly it's easier to forgive people when they mean nothing to you. One day, he'll mean something to her and that will also come with the realisation of how regressive his ideologies are, it's then that he'll have to work harder for her.

Shaurya deserves all those things you have posted at the beginning to be thrown right where it hurts the most!
