I agree he should have taken more time to investigate.

But why will he think someone changed the documents? He will never able to think (forget believe) that his family will stoop to this level and can do so much to get Devkit separated. Until now when Sai told him they want to separate them was believable for him.

He only thought they might create issues at home or use force or or refuse to let Pulkit in their house or mebbe even lock up Devi in the room to stop their wedding.

He won't think that his family can get documents changed to stop it.

Even we won't. He is anyway not trusting them blindly but also cannot mistrust them to this level. Sai does not belong to this family, she has seen their atrocities more than what he has seen so she can see through them.
