Yes, it happens a lot to me when I'm reading mysteries. I hate it when I can predict events, especially endings. And I haven't even read half the number of mysteries as you've read romances. 😆

Because you savour the books, I just gobble them. 😆

I bet if I read it again I would despise the cheating scenario, no matter how much COLLEEN glorifies and justifies it .Anyways, she has a knack of writing. Her stories may be average sometimes but her writing weaves the magic. So may be you can give it a go.....

LOL...I also checked to see how much I gave the book; I gave it 4 stars A lot of it is to do with the content we watched and how toxic and unhealthy relationships were portrayed in mainstream media. TV shows made cheating and overbearing male leads appealing and made it seem that all is fair in love; no matter how unethical.
Come to think of it, practically all of Colleen Hoover’s books have unhealthy/toxic relationships between the leads, especially her earlier books. That’s the reason I don’t think I can revisit her earlier books since I have become wiser.
Her newer books are also not that great but I agree with Hinna & Shreya, her writing style is compelling. Hoover’s books are great to overcome a reading slump, since you usually can’t put down one of her books till you are done with them.

I think I am going to pick up Layla since I going through a major reading slump.

Same here. I can predict the end to quite a few thrillers and that’s why when I choose one for the book club, I want it to be something amazing.
I used to read quite a few romance novels till about 5 years ago, so they no longer hold any appeal.

Question

Since all of you read or have read quite a few books, do you remember the storyline of books you have read maybe a couple of years ago or is it forgotten a few months later?

I dont really mind reading about toxic relationships since its just fiction. I enjoy many dark romances. But here I just could not connect with the characters at all. I felt for Maggie😭 The leads were just too selfish.

Do tell me how you find Layla. I am yet to read it.

I usually remember the main plot but forget all the details
