in ekta shows the male leads did not maintain angry young man quality for a long time.since ekta male leads are brainless all kind of investigation was done by the female lead.also only a few male leads were angry.but in gul shows male leads maintain anger for a long time n they are more intelligent than the female leads mostly.so the female leads are just cute.also almost every gul show follows the same angry young man n soft girl concept. that's how the angry man soft girl concept became more popular.so this concept became more popular bcz of Gul.

M&B concept existed even in DD era but in less numbers. Then Ekta brought it back in some of her shows. Even in some other PH shows it existed like in Betiyaan 2 out of 5 sisters had that kind of story. Then as Raj said MJHT and Geet popularized it more. Yes it then popularized more as internet era started so popularity too spread in big way. So even though M&B popularized with MJHT and Geet we can't deny that it's start happened long back.
