Yes, yes! I read Angels and Demons a few months back, and all those twists and turns, and thrill and investigation was so much fun. I like to keep guessing along the way too, and it makes for a much better reading experience when I can't guess the climax or the criminal rightly.

Which reminds me something I wanted to ask you. Do you have something planned for crime/mystery/thriller genre? If everyone would like to read that, of course.

All the books you listed above are in my tbr for this year. 😛

Same here. I love thrillers because they get my brain cells working and I like being able to predict what is going to happen and I like it even more when I am unable to predict the ending. It gives me a huge high if I am satisfied with a thriller because I have read so many of them that not many manage to shock me any longer.

I so want to have a couple of thrillers or mysteries as book/books of the month but I am yet to come across something with stellar reviews. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I find it easy to find books in the contemporary fiction and historical fiction genre, but very few good suggestions in the thriller genre.

@Diya: If I want an introduction to an author’s writing style without having to read a full fledged novel, I would rely on short stories. If a writer can get me interested in a short story then I know that he/she is a good writer. I think Stephen King once said that it is very difficult to write short stories and I can see why he said that.

@Hinna: I think that mostly happens with romance and thrillers. Contemporary fiction, classics, non fiction, etc. shorter the book, better it is.

I have never really had an issue with reading books in third person. I much prefer books written in first person though. I recently read a book that was written in second person, that seemed to take some getting used to.

Book in second person? Never heard of that before. Sounds weird. What book was it?

Thanks Shanam. This was very encouraging 😆

I think anything less than 400 pages is good. If it's more than that, I start procrastinating. I think works that are too short, like those with only 100-200 pages would be called a novella. But of course I like them too.

Question❓

What do you girls think of short stories? I'm not too fond of them myself. I very rarely find a short story that I like. They don't have enough space to describe the characters or give them a chance to grow, and tend to have an abrupt, incomplete end. I like to immerse myself in the world the author creates, which is impossible with short stories.

Short stories don't satiate my hunger for reading. Their abrubt endings always leave me wanting for more. But sometimes I do enjoy these kind of books when I want to read but don't want to spend two days in doing that.

I love novellas when they are in continuation with other novels that I absolutely love. I always want more of my favorite couples. And oh Boy! I have plenty of them. I want to grow old with them. 😍

Bold:- Not necessarily. Novellas are longer than short stories but shorter than full fledged novels.

I like short stories but they are mostly rushed and dont have time to add twists and turns, they are too simple so I prefer long novels as it gives us time to explore and get attached to the story and characters

Couldn't have explained it better. That's my problem with them too.

I had read a story written in the second person. It was fanfiction but I couldn't enjoy it as much as I would've if it were in 1st or 3rd person. I don't have a problem with either 1st or 3rd person narration, and actually like reading in 3rd person omniscient, but I like mysteries better with 1st person, so we don't get to know everything that's happening and have only a single POV. An omniscient voice would probably ruin half the fun.

@Hinna: The book I read that had most parts in second person was The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo.

@all: Sorry for being MIA. I have been kind of busy and also not really been in the mood to read anything. At the beginning of the year I’m usually pumped up to read but this time it is different. I don’t like this feeling.
How are you girls doing and how is your reading coming along?

Don't worry at all. I listened to two audiobooks last week. Both romances, nothing heavy. I must say I am enjoying this new activity of mine.
