Does it ever happen to you that you love a book upon first time reading it. But after few years when you reread it, you are like, "why did I like this the first time?" It's either your tastes have matured or the book has simply lost its appeal to you? I really want to know your opinions.

I want to know what you all think about what should be the appropriate length of a novel

I think 250-270 pages are enough.

I think it depends on the story. If I am really into it, then I never want it to end. Like It Ends With Us😆

Yes. Chetan Bhagat books, mostly. I don't find them very interesting anymore, except maybe 2 States, and some seem to be in horrible taste now, like One Night at the Call Center and Revolution 2020. I didn't like Revolution 2020 a lot back then either, but now it has gotten even down in my list.

Thanks Shanam. This was very encouraging 😆

I think anything less than 400 pages is good. If it's more than that, I start procrastinating. I think works that are too short, like those with only 100-200 pages would be called a novella. But of course I like them too.

Question❓

What do you girls think of short stories? I'm not too fond of them myself. I very rarely find a short story that I like. They don't have enough space to describe the characters or give them a chance to grow, and tend to have an abrupt, incomplete end. I like to immerse myself in the world the author creates, which is impossible with short stories.

Not all classics are long. Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, The Great Gatsby are amongst the shorter classics. I guess it depends on the author and what she/he is writing about.

Yes, yes! I read Angels and Demons a few months back, and all those twists and turns, and thrill and investigation was so much fun. I like to keep guessing along the way too, and it makes for a much better reading experience when I can't guess the climax or the criminal rightly.

Which reminds me something I wanted to ask you. Do you have something planned for crime/mystery/thriller genre? If everyone would like to read that, of course.

All the books you listed above are in my tbr for this year. 😛

I like short stories but they are mostly rushed and dont have time to add twists and turns, they are too simple so I prefer long novels as it gives us time to explore and get attached to the story and characters

I usually don’t reread books but I know that there are certain books that I have read in the past that will not appeal to me now, mostly romance novels. I can now see how problematic some of them were and I didn’t realise it at that time.
On the other hand, there are some books that may have been “boring” when I was younger, but now, I if I have to think of them I see that there was more to them than when I first read them. There won’t be many in the second category for me since I’ve mostly read thrillers, but there are still a few books.

@Hinna: I think that mostly happens with romance and thrillers. Contemporary fiction, classics, non fiction, etc. shorter the book, better it is.

I have never really had an issue with reading books in third person. I much prefer books written in first person though. I recently read a book that was written in second person, that seemed to take some getting used to.

@Shanam: Anything between 350-400 pages works for me. It also boils down to the story and writing style. I could read a 500 page book and still want to read more of it and on the other hand, I can get fed up reading a 200 page book.
