Most logical route to me is that around time is that Malhar started investigating the Vittal case around the time KalMa got married. Or maybe before that. Asha knew Malhar was investigating them, even though investigation was supposed to be top secret.

I feel maybe Malhar knew Avni was a spy or working for Vittal gang from the beginning. Maybe that's why she wanted to marry him. Cause Asha even knew about Ahir. There is some connection there.
