Chapter 22 – Fall From Grace

As Sarthak and Anupriya entered their room, Malhar requested them to close the door behind as he didn’t want anyone to accidentally find out what he knew. They did as he requested and enquired him about what had happened. Malhar was at a loss for words, he didn’t know how to break the news to them. His hesitation was now brewing curiosity in Sarthak and Anupriya’s mind. They saw Swara’s diary in his hand and they immediately demanded an explanation from him. Malhar explained the entire matter to the both of them and apologised profusely to Anupriya. He knelt down to beg for her forgiveness.

Anupriya stood there without any emotions as this did not surprise her. She had learnt about Aaosaheb’s vengeful and opportunistic ways, a long time ago and Malhar was now only confirming her assumptions. She looked at a teary-eyed Sarthak and told him, “Sarthak!! We can’t send Aaosaheb away from here now because Kalyani will get suspicious. So until such a time when Kalyani is recovered, we will have to tolerate her but we can use this as a leverage and confront her. This will ensure that she won’t step another toe out of line next time.” Sarthak was shocked to see her stern attitude, he just nodded his head in agreement and backed away.

Malhar on the other hand wanted her forgiveness. He was still on his knees, he held her hands and said to her, “I am sorry for everything that I did to you and Kalyani, Maai!! I should have known better. Please forgive me. “Anupriya pulled her hand away and said, “Oh please Malhar!! Don’t pretend like you would have even listened to us, had we voiced our suspicions about Aaosaheb’s involvement earlier. Kalyani had suspected this long ago, she also knew that you wouldn’t believe her so she wanted to get a handwriting analysis done and prove our innocence. But she couldn’t complete it because of the accident. “Malhar realised that what Anupriya had said, had truth to it. The Rane men were truly guilt ridden and were yet again ashamed of themselves for wrongfully accusing their respective spouses.

Just then, they all heard a knock on the door which was followed by a familiar voice that called out to her mother. Kalyani had woken up from her afternoon siesta and had come in search of her mother. The trio quickly composed themselves and Anupriya opened the door. Kalyani could immediately sense the tension in the air and checked with Aai if she was doing ok. Anupriya cleared her throat and reassured her daughter that all was well. Kalyani then happily walked into her parent’s room and expressed, “Aai!! Let’s go shopping today. I am running out of clothes to wear and I am sure the retail therapy will cheer us up. How about we take baba along with us and make a quick family day out of it?” And as she said this each one of her arm was intertwined with her parents. Though Kalyani had noticed Malhar in the room, she paid no attention to him. She wanted to give him the silent treatment to knock some sense into him. She purposely looked away every time he looked at her. Malhar was very well aware of her cute little antic but her silence was troubling him.

Sarthak was all smiles as he wanted to do right by Kalyani this time around and make up for all the lost time with his family. But Anupriya signalled no in her eyes to him. Kalyani being out of the house was the perfect opportunity for Anupriya to set Aaosaheb straight so she suggested Kalyani to go shopping on her own. Though Kalyani was disappointed, Anupriya successfully convinced her otherwise.

Kalyani then quickly got dressed. She had paired her light blue skinny jeans with a white off-shoulder top, her hair was tied in a half-braid and she had donned on minimal jewellery. She was looking beautiful and her aura was attracting Malhar no matter how hard he tried to control himself. He was unknowingly trying to get a glimpse of her every chance he got as she kissed her parents goodbye and left for the mall. She could feel his gaze on her but purposely ignored it to teach him a lesson.

Once Kalyani had left the house, the trio cornered Aaosaheb in her room and confronted her. They showed the evidence they had against her and threatened her that if she ever tried to mess with them ever again then she would have hell to pay. They warned her that this time around her punishment would be nothing other than incarceration. Aaosaheb was flabbergasted that her cover was blown and that she had to surrender to the very people she despised the most, The Ranes. She was fuming on the inside but the survivalist in her made her pour out fake apologies to all of them. She also promised to rectify her behaviour in the future. Though no one believed her anymore, they all just sighed in anger and left from her room. At this point, they were only tolerating her until the completion of Kalyani’s recovery.

A couple of hours had gone by, it was getting darker outside. The weather had taken a rather stormy turn and it was looking as if Aurangabad was in for a rainy night. Moksh had returned home from his play date and Anupriya was feeding him his evening snacks. She was expressing to Sarthak, her concern about Kalyani’s delay in return from the mall. She requested him to call Kalyani and instruct her to return home right away as the weather didn’t look too pleasing. Sarthak agreed and headed to his room to fetch his phone. Malhar who had overheard this entire conversation, followed Sarthak to his room and informed Sarthak that he wanted to pick Kalyani up from the mall. Sarthak knew how much Malhar missed being with her so he happily obliged and also assured him that he would cover for him in front of Anupriya. Malhar happily left for the mall while Sarthak informed Anupriya that Kalyani would be home soon.

At the mall:

Kalyani had finished her shopping and had booked a cab for her ride home. Unbeknownst to her, Malhar had already reached the mall and was waiting for her at the entrance. Kalyani had a bunch of shopping bags with her and was busy arranging them as she walked out of the mall. As she stepped out, she was surprised to see him waiting there. She knew what he was up to so she deliberately walked away ignoring him.
