First of all,I have a confession to make. I loved reading your essays in the Deewangi thread.Your understanding of Sultan as the magnificent character that he was appealed to me greatly❤️ My only regret is that I couldn't remain active and participate in the discussions frequently.Originally posted by: Ashley.Tisdale
Firstly can I say how happy I am to notice someone who writes long posts like me!! Its made my day tbh 😆
I knew FQ was a seasoned actor but no one warned me how magnetic he is on screen. You can't take your eyes off of him. The depth he's brought to Haider in one episode is astounding. As a viewer, the sole thought in my mind is 'Yeah he's crying and is sad...but its not what it seems.' Somewhere at the back of my head I have a feeling that Haider is a character with various layers and while we've just seen a hint of his obsession, its going to be a long ride.
This is my first time watching Wahaj too and he's impressed me immensely in the short duration of his role in the Pilot. Comparing the two, FQ's Haider is hiding a lot of his pain behind his cool and calm demeanour. He's seen and felt like hell. But Wahaj's Hamza is a grounded yet happy-go-lucky, has seen and experienced comfort in his life; his first traumatic experience would be losing Dilnasheen to a much older, equally powerful man.
Absolutely second the casting director statement. Any show can be made or broken based on the actors they get on board. Having watched only Hiba before, I had my skepticism. But seeing how these fabulous actors have added their own flavour to an age-old but intricate story is fascinating. The push and pull, yin and yang is what might make this show one of the biggest hits of 2021.
Haider and Hamza are both (as I like to called it) 'avatars' of Sultan. They both possess his qualities, but are polar opposites, given the extremes Sultan had been through. Sultan was an incredible character and will always be around in a way. We'll always see him.
Hamza is a gentler version of Sultan before he got married to Narmeen, whereas Haider is an understated version of Sultan after he had lost everything. The clash would be when both men go all guns out and end up becoming more like Sultan in terms of actions due to their obssesions. I.e when Hamza loses Dilnasheen and fights like no other since he has nothing to lose and Haider loses his obsession with Mehmal and fights for his wife.
The chaos and madness that will arise from the "merging" of the yin and yang of the males will be a treat to watch out for. So even though 'Sultan' gets the girl and 'Sultan' loses the girl, we as fans will continue to feel that gaping hole of how writers did a multifaceted character so dirty. Had the writing and execution been apt, can you imagine the heights of critical acclaim and commercial success? And dont even get me started on the number of awards that show would've won!!
Another observation I couldn't help but make was that Hamza and Dilnasheen were what Sultan and Nageen would've been if Nageen had given him a fair chance in the beginning itself. Sultan would've never become this maddeningly tormented soul who was only possessed by the thought of his beloved.
Coming back to the star of the post: who can forget Sultan? By casting Danish, they ended up making the audience go down the emotional rabbit hole of "Deewangi" for Sultan. Strange, when the lines between real and reel blur..!! Sultan was charming, alluring, persuasive and captivating. He enticed me and held my attention throughout the show's run; and I suffer from attention span issues. For me, the only good thing about 2020 was Sultan Durrani. And don't get me started on how enraged I was to see him get the raw end of the deal. The Deewangi thread on I-F is filled with my page long essays. He is and undoubtedly will be their best creation, with such a high benchmark set that the makers will find it difficult to produce anything even remotely comparable.
Was it Sultan's gentle persuasion, even when he manipulated the oldest in the game? Was it his dashingly good looks? Was it the power and dominance he exhibited that put Christian Grey and Don Massimo to shame? Was it his desire to possess Nageen? Was it the animalistic lust in his eyes that drove fangirls into a breathless frenzy? Was it all of this or none at all? Or was it Danish, who breathed in such life into a character that months after the show has ended we continue to discuss it with as much passion as we did in the past?
For me, its yet another yin and yang situation: there is so Sultan without Danish and Danish's critical acclaim and surge in popularity is solely because of Sultan!
@red,I couldn't agree more with you regarding the contrast between Haider and Hamza. Currently both are what Sultan could have been under different circumstances. Had Sultan not lost his entire family, especially his beloved Bijaan, then he might have turned out like Haider - melancholic, brooding over the past and still wishing for things to have turned out differently but with a hope to regain his happiness someday.Maybe he could have even recovered from his all consuming obsession with Nageen if he had his daughter by his side for the solace of fatherhood is what Haider has been denying himself on purpose.Either way,the stabilizing presence of a simple family is what keeps Haider restrained and doesn't let him fall apart even after losing his love. Sultan, unfortunately, wasn't this lucky for his own family members were instrumental in driving Nageen away from him. Had Narmeen not intervened between him and Nageen then maybe the outcome would have been different. But Narmeen's betrayal followed by her accidental death that lead to him getting alienated from his family was the ultimate trigger for Sultan. His obsession to obtain Nageen was intensified a hundredfold because,in his eyes, she was all he had left.
When I look at Hamza and Dilnasheen and the drunken elation of a beautiful first love which reflects in their eyes,I can't help but sigh because,as you correctly observed, they are what Sultan and Nageen could have been had she not been so sceptical and judgemental of him in the first place.Had she just listened to him once or given him a chance to court her then maybe their equation would have been as simple like the one Hamza and Dilnasheen share. The reason why Hamza appears gentler as compared to Sultan is because he was never rejected and rebuffed constantly like the latter was.Even though we haven't seen how or when Hamza and Dilnasheen fell for each other, one can easily imagine how it must have happened. It's not that difficult to fall for for men like Hamza and Sultan once you get to know them properly. But Dilnasheen gave Hamza what Sultan did not get from Nageen - a fair chance to win her heart.Hamza is yet to be acquainted with the pain and heartache that comes from relentlessly pursuing one's love which is what pushed Sultan to the very edge. Currently he is shielded by a blissful cocoon which will soon shatter when his love is taken away from him. It's that anguish which will lead him to the same dark path which had been paved by Sultan Durrani.
@blue,Yin and Yang.A duality which is represented by Haider and Hamza in this drama. As you said, for now both are polar opposites despite possessing Sultan's traits. For one is yet to undergo the heartbreak and tragedy which Sultan had to go through while the other has been neutralized to a great extent due to healthy and positive environment he is surrounded by. When the inevitable clash occurs, both with reconnect with Sultan who lies dormant within them and it will be nothing less than a bloodbath for "Fitoor" is nothing but "Deewangi" at its very extreme point.
@black,Certain characters are larger than life and they are tailor made for certain actors. No one else can do justice to the character apart from them.Just like there is no Klaus Mikaelson without Joseph Morgan, there is no Sultan Durrani without Danish Taimoor. To say that he was outstanding as Sultan would be an understatement for he practically became the character whenever he was onscreen. Watching him was hypnotic and one couldn't take his eyes off him.Call me biased but I don't think I would be able to connect with any character Danish plays or has played after watching him as Sultan. I have a weakness for powerful and intelligent characters who shed their inhibitions and give in to love. And if such characters tend to lean towards the dark side then it's a double treat. Sultan was a man with the entire world at his feet and yet he yearned for the love of one woman just like the mighty Apollo yearned for Daphne whom he could never have. There were moments when I was mesmerised with him. There were moments when I was in awe of his brilliant mind and the effortless ease with which he manipulated others to have his way. There were also moments when I reviled him. But he was also the one I was fixated on throughout the drama. When a character graph as intricate as his met an attractive and talented actor like Danish, the masterpiece we saw was created.
But yes,the manner in which he was done dirty by the writers and robbed of the conclusion he rightfully deserved can never be forgiven or forgotten. It hurt me to watch him get butchered meaninglessly just to garner sympathy for Nageen and Haroon only for the drama to have end on a dissatisfying note. It seemed as if the writers had accidentally created this phenomenal antihero and did not know what to do with him which is why they ended up subjecting him to the same fate which every ordinary villain goes through. It was frustrating.
I believe that even the writers knew that a character like Sultan can never be recreated and that it belonged to Danish which is why they ended up creating two alternate characters using the same mould that was used for Sultan but with personas of their own.
Lol this is cute 🤣🤣
Its nice 😂😂
It's actually quite cute 😆
I like it !
Finally watched the 1st episode. I was happy reading those detailed reviews by @Ashly and @Lawless .. so that I didn't feel the need of watching it urgently.😆
Now what can I say? You said it all guys. In fact you made me notice things which I couldn't pay attention too unless you wrote about. 👍🏼
Wahaj stole my heart.. those eyelocks made me blush.😳 Poor Hiba.😆
F.Q. made me feel for him. 😒 those sad looks when he saw Mehmal. 🥺 I was angry at him for playing SR in Muqaddar.😔 But now .. I am falling for him again. ❤️ I know Zanjabeel characters have grey shades.. but I am ready for this ride.😉
Kiran Haq is doing gr8. She has a role in which she can show diverse of emotions , and I am glad she is doing it perfectly. She looks beautifull too, but I hope she changes her hairstyle a bit. She always has that straight and parted from the middle hairstyle. I want her to experiment with her look here. I think her character resembles that of Mehwish in MPTH. Aiza looks breathtaking there.

Oh man I wish you were active on Deewangi's thread. The fun we would've had! Awida and I were the most active by the end, I wish you were there too. But no worries, we have Fitoor here.
I get the feeling since the makers of Deewangi and Fitoor are the same, they're trying to portray all the 'What Ifs' for Deewangi. Thats why Dilnasheen and Hamza remind us for Sultan and Nageen, while Haider resembles Sultan post the leap if he wouldnt have lost everyone. And that's why both the men are going to let their 'Sultan side' take over once they lose all their inhibitions.
Isn't the world Yin and Yang too? Aren't we all surrounded by that philosophy? But having it as a focal point for a television show is what makes it riveting. Since we aren't a part of this particular story, but mere viewers.
I know we aren't supposed to discuss any other show or character but Sultan just keeps coming back, doesn't he. Having watched Danish's other performances and loving all of them, I can still affirm that he will be remembered the most as Sultan. There has not been a more entertaining and multidimensional character in years. I know the weakness you talk about, for I have it too. However of all the characters who have truly stayed with me, Sultan Durrani will always be the most memorable from a South Asian series. He wasn't an arrogant ruthless businessman, he was a man who could subjugate the entire world, but lost when it came to the one woman who stole his heart...yet she never knew she had it or even respected it. True there were a bunch of other characters who had their own struggles, back stories and traits. But the only one I was connected to was Sultan.
You know why I never reviled him? Because as a critical viewer, I knew the Sultan we met in the first episode would've never done the terrible things he did in later episodes. True he was a master manipulator with a supremely complex mind. He always got his way, no matter how hard he had to fight for him. His emotions were always beneath the surface, unless you read his eyes. But he never was truly evil. And bad writing could not make me hate this man, no matter how hard they tried. Casting is one of the most important aspects of character development. Hence adding a terrific performer like Danish to a labyrinthine concoction lead to Deewangi's success.
There will aways be one Sultan Durrani undoubtedly. I came across an Indian TV show as well, who's character gives the same vibes as Sultan. But we all know it'll never happen. Some things happen only once and Sultan was one such character.
I believe the writers will always have Sultan at the back of their mind, give how unforgettable the character is. They also know they did him dirty. Hence they created two new versions of him, hoping to do justice this time.
Loved Kasautii but poora khrab kardiya tha when it came back after pandemic 🥺
This show is from the same producers who produced Raaz e Ulfat and Deewangni
While written by the same writers who wrote Pyar Ke Sadqe
I am not sure how similar Fitoor will be to Deewangi (haven't watched it) but my biggest apprehension is that it will reduce down to being a story about a man who is torn between two women and that is something I don't find fascinating.
I rather see a clash between 2 men instead. But I am not sure if that is going to happen or not. Apparantely Wahaj has shot for like 1.5 months for this show while others including Kiran have shot quite a lot comparatively.
Have noticed that Wahaj almost every damn time gets sidelined though he manages to shine in the few scenes he gets. I want him to get better screen space this time around though this latest info is not very encouraging
Let's see how the story will unfold. As far I am concerned I would love to see a clash between Haider and Hamza, a clash of their respective obsession. Let it be a tussle between these 2 men and see whose FITOOR triumphs in the end.
