It was the most fateful day of his life. Arnav Singh Raizada sacrificed his love because she told him that if he truly loved her he would let her go and here he was four months later to meet her for the last time which coincidently was her wedding day. Two days back the Raizada house had received a wedding invitation of Khushi Kumari Gupta and Abhimanyu Singh. Arnav was totally shattered when he heard that his Khushi would belong to someone else in just two days. His Khushi, did he even deserve to call her as his, he thought wryly. The thought of living his whole life without her robbed him of his breath.
Jab tumhari zindagi mein woh ladki aayegi toh tum usse door nahi reh paoge aur uske bina tumhari saasein ruk jayegi.
His Di's words haunted him day and night. He had ridiculed her that day but it was today that he understood the depth of her words.
He entered the wedding hall and saw the grandeur oozing out of each and everything. This is what Khushi had wanted for her wedding. This was her dream wedding. A wedding which had all the rituals she so religiously believed. He took slow painful steps to where his love, his life stood in her bridal wear looking like an angel that she was. If it was in his hands he would bargain everything damn thing he had to go back in time and correct everything he had done. He wanted to see her for the last time before he went far away from her. He wanted to take an image of her in his eyes which would last with him for his entire lifetime. She was looking happy and had the glow on her face which every bride has. Her nose, about which he had teased her in happier times, was red. This was a sign that he did not have any space in her life as there was another person in her life who would make her blush and keep her like a princess, give her the respect and love she deserved. Her thousand watt smile still made his heart skip a beat and now it was not for him but only for her soon to be husband. Truth, as people said, is very bitter.
Khushi felt the wind blow and a familiar sensation hit her senses which happened only when he was close. She shrugged it off thinking it to be her nervousness. When she looked up she saw him standing in one corner of the hall away from the crowd. 'So typical him,' she thought. But what she saw made her breath hitch. She saw a defeated Arnav and not the ruthless ASR who had ruined her life. His eyes were full of tears and he was looking directly at her with all the love, affection and guilt in his eyes.
The wedding rituals started and he saw his family standing in the front with tears of happiness in their eyes for her. His family had completely supported her when the truth about their marriage had been revealed. His Di's cutting words still rang in his ears,
"How could you do this to her Arnav. You say you did all this to protect me from Shyam but there is no reason valid enough for you to ruin Khushiji's life. Even if Khushiji decides to forgive you, I don't think I will ever be able to pardon you for this. Had Maa been alive today she would have been utterly disappointed with you."
That was the last time his family had talked to him and he had welcomed their cold behaviour because he knew that he deserved nothing less than this. His family didn't know that he was here today. He had decided two days back that after her wedding he would leave for London and never return back. He felt as if he was the reason of the pain his Khushi and his family were going through. He had handed over all his work and property to his Di and Akash. He didn't want to live in a world where she wasn't with him. He wrote a letter and gave it to a little boy and asked him to give it to the bride.
Khushi was really happy that finally she was having a second chance in life. It was not that she didn't love Arnav but it was of no use crying over a relation which didn't have trust in it. She had so badly wanted to give Arnav a second chance but her heart was so brutally crushed and broken that she didn't have the courage to give her heart to him on a platter to have it broken again. It had taken a lot of effort on her part to forget her past and start a new life with Abhimanyu. She trusted Abhimanyu because she had tested him a lot of times and he proved every single time that he was nothing like her Arnavji.
Try as hard as she might, she just couldn't get him out of her mind. Something about his demeanor told her that everything was not the way Anjali told her. Anjali had told her that he had a meeting so he didn't come. But the fact that he was here and his family did not even notice was something she could not digest. She felt that something was wrong. He looked unwell, his eyes had dark circles around them and he was thinner than the last time she saw him. When she had left she knew one thing that whatever be the situation his family was there with him. They would help him to move on and take away the guilt which he had even after she had forgiven him. But everything was the exact opposite of what she thought. He still had that a guilty and self-loathing look in his eyes. She hated to see him defeated, guilty, and lost. She had always liked the strong, proud and enigmatic Arnav. It gave her a sense of relief that the 14 year old boy was safe from this cruel world. But seeing his vulnerable side she felt she had left him unprotected against the ruthless world. She was brought out of her thoughts by a nudge from Abhimanyu. He had a piece of paper in his hand which he was holding in front of her, waiting for her to take it.
"Khushi this is for you, that little boy asked me to give this to the bride. Abhimayu said pointing towards the little boy who had given him the paper.
"Who would write a letter to me? Khushi said getting suspicious about the writer of the letter.
She opened the letter, it read,
Dear Khushi,
Congratulations on your wedding. I'm really happy for you. At last you are getting your dream wedding, isn't it? You look absolutely beautiful today. Abhimanyu is really lucky to have found you as his life partner. I don't know if I should be saying all this especially today, on the happiest day of your life, but if I don't say it today I probably will never be able to. I have hurt you a lot Khushi; I can't imagine the pain you must have gone through. Try as I might but I will never be able to forgive myself for my decisions and my actions. I know, I have done absolutely nothing to deserve your forgiveness but I would still say that I am really sorry for all the times I hurt you. You must be thinking why this Laad Governor is talking so much today. The truth is you have completely changed me Khushi. In the last four months I have understood the importance of having a loving family. I have realized how essential relationships are in one's life and how devastating it is to see those relations shatter. So, I have decided to go away from your life. I know this would be difficult but this is the only way I can redeem myself in your eyes.
I don't want you to cry when you read this; you know how much I hate to see those tears in your eyes. Just remember whatever happened between us, none of that was your fault. It was all me. Please don't try to find me because it would highly unfair to Abhimanyu. He is a really good guy, he accepted you even after knowing everything. I don't want to be the reason for ruining your life once again. Give yourself one more chance at finding your love with him. I know you love him but you are afraid to accept it and I understand why. He is nothing like me Khushi, don't be afraid just tell him what you feel. Keeping your feelings hidden always hurts. All the best for your life Khushi. Don't let your sanak fade away because that is trademark of Khushi Kumari Gupta. Please try to forget me and our relation like you would forget a nightmare. Once again congratulations.
Arnav
Tear were flowing down her cheeks when she finished reading the letter. She could not believe her laad governer was leaving because he thought it was best for her and wanted her to forget him just like that. She was going to find him and give him a tight slap and tell him to be the angry ASR and shout at her for marrying somebody else. She could tolerate his anger because it was a habit. But how could she handle this defeated and guilt-ridden Arnav who was ready to destroy his own life just to see her happy. She looked at Abhimanyu who was looking at her with a confused look on his face.
"Abhimanyu I need some time before we go ahead with all the ceremonies. Arnavji is leaving, he still thinks he is responsible for all that happened between us and I have not forgiven him. I need to clear it out with him. I just cannot let him leave like this, I won't be able to live in peace knowing what he feels. She said to him, hoping he would understand her plight.
"I understand Khushi, you should go and talk to him. I hope he doesn't take any wrong step in guilt. I suggest you ask his family about this. They might know where he is going He said honestly, because he knew somewhere in the corner of her heart, Khushi still loved Arnav.
Khushi got up from the mandap and went near the rest of the Raizadas. She saw Di happily chatting with her amma and buaji. She was shocked to see this. She couldn't believe that Di was happily socializing when her brother was leaving. She went near her and placed her hand on her shoulder to get her attention.
"Anjaliji, where is Arnavji? He didn't come with you? She asked as normally as she could.
"Khushiji he had an important meeting so he went to the office. He won't be coming. Anjali said shocked as the most unexpected person mentioned her brother.
To say Khushi was shocked would be an understatement. What she saw in Anjaliji's eyes when she mentioned Arnavji shocked her to the core. Her eyes were full of anger and shame instead of the love and affection she had seen on numerous occasions. Something was definitely wrong in this whole situation.
"Anyway Khushiji, what Arnav does with his life is no more my concern. After what he did to you, I am really disappointed in him. I think it will be the best if you don't ask me about him. Anjali said not understanding the reason behind Khushi's sudden enquiry.
Her heart clenched painfully as she heard Anjali utter those heart breaking words. Here she was feeling content that she had left him with his loving family, who would help him overcome his guilt. But the situation was exactly opposite. They had criticized, bashed, ignored and hurt that poor soul who always craved love, affection and care. Khushi felt her anger rise as she saw the entire Raizada family standing there as if nothing was wrong in what they did to her Arnavji. Finally Khushi decided that it was time she knocked some sense into their heads so that they can see what they have done to the person who lives just for them.
"Di, do you even realize what are you saying and that too about whom. I can't believe you think so low of him. Even if he took a rash decision of marrying me but do you realize whathe must have gone through knowing that you all would hate him for what he was about to do. But he was never concerned about his own pain; he was only worried about you and your baby. He was fulfilling the promise he made to you on every Rakhi that no matter what he would always protect you from harm. Though his way of doing it was wrong but never for once I felt that his intentions were wrong. I really thought you all love him very much and will eventually forgive him. If I could forgive him easily then why couldn't you all, who know him right from when he was a child, forgive him? Di you should have been the first one to forgive him. I thought you all would take care of him and never let him be sad. I cannot believe I trusted you all with my Arnavji. How could I leave him with such people who do not even appreciate his love for them. I had forgiven him a long time ago and I left because there was nothing left in our relationship, but I had faith in all of you that your care and love would help him overcome his pain and guilt but now I can see how utterly wrong I was. She said in one go, her rage knowing no limits.
There was an eerie silence after Khushi stopped speaking. Anjali and the rest of the Raizadas stood in front of her, shocked out of their wits hearing the news of Arnav leaving the city. Khushi felt really bad for Arnav and desperately wanted to bring him back and hide him from this cruel world so no one could hurt him anymore. She decided that she would search for him and bring him back. Her earlier resolve broke after she heard that his family had outcasted him. She decided that she cannot get married to Abhimanyu and spoil three lives when she knew that she won't be able to do justice to this relation as she still loved Arnav.
"I have decided to find Arnavji and bring him back. I am never going to let him go away from me because no matter what he did, I still love him and no matter how much I try I cannot forget him. She said with finality. Akash went up to her and apologized for his behavior to which Khushi replied
"Jeejaji don't apologize to me, you should ask for his forgiveness.
"Khushiji please bring back my Chotte. I promise we will correct all the mistakes we have done and apologize to him. Anjali said with tears in her eyes. She understood how her Chotte must have felt when she had ignored him.
Khushi sighed in relief as she saw that all of them had understood their mistake and were ready to start afresh forgetting their bitter past. She then went near Abhimanyu who was standing near the mandap with a smile on his face. She looked at his face and felt guilty of hurting such a nice person who had supported her when she was all alone. But the look on his face told her that he was ready for her decision and would support her through it. She gave him a big bear hug thanking him silently for understanding and supporting her.
"Abhimanyu I don't know how to say this but I still love Arnavji a lot and I cannot let him be sad and lonely anymore. I hope you understand what I am trying to say.
"I understand Khushi, had I been in your place I would have done the same thing. Now go and bring him back and don't lose him this time. Abhimanyu said
Khushi left the wedding hall and went to the airport because she knew that her Laad Governor wouldn't travel by any other mode if he was leaving the city. She was happy that finally she was going to be with her laad governor forever. She got out of the taxi and began searching him.
Meanwhile inside the airport Arnav was sitting in the lounge waiting for the boarding call for his flight. He was lost in thoughts of the happy moments he had spent with the love of his life but with happy times he also remembered the times when he had wronged her, tortured her. Try as he might, he could not forgive himself for each and everything he had done to her. He just wished he could hide somewhere and cry out all his pain and anguish which he was feeling from the last 4 months.
Destiny decided to play her part and unite the two lovers who were separated for a long time and end their sufferings. Arnav heard the announcer inform that the flight had been delayed for about 3 hours due to some technical fault. He sighed and decided to go out of the airport for some fresh air. The moment he went outside the airport he again felt the very familiar gust of wind which alerted him of her presence. He brushed it off thinking it to be a hallucination. But as soon as he turned around he saw a girl standing in front of him all decked up as a bride with tears streaming down her almond shaped eyes.
Khushi had been frantically searching for Arnav in the airport. She thought that he had left and the thought scared her. But her fears were put to rest when she felt a gust of wind hit her and she instantly knew he was still here. She walked a few steps and finally saw him looking far away. She sighed in relief and waited for him to turn around so she could see his face.
"What-the.. Khushi what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at your wedding? I had strictly told you not to come looking for me then why did you come?
"You are the one to ask what I am doing here, bade aaye Laad Governor. You thought you will write me an emotional letter and I will just let you go like that. Do you even realize what I went through while reading that stupid letter? Did you think this piece of paper would have let me move on like you so selflessly preached? Is this what you do to the person you love the most in the world? Don't act surprised. Do you think I am some idiot who doesn't know how much you love me? Why do you put yourself through this pain? You can't even imagine how scared I was when I read your letter, I didn't even know where you were going and if I will ever be able to see you again. Khushi said tears streaming down her face.
Arnav stood there stumped at her confession but he realized that she had left her wedding as he feared.
"Khushi I told you not to take any decision because of me, which you might regret later. Damn it, why don't you understand that I don't want to be the person responsible for ruining your life anymore. I won't be able to handle that guilt again Khushi. I am not worthy of you so just go back and live your life. You deserve a happy life and you won't get that living with me.
"Bas Arnavji. How much more are you going to blame yourself for all this? You were not the only one at fault, somewhere even I was responsible for what happened. Whatever Shyam did he is paying for it, why should we let him spoil our lives anymore? Enough is enough, I am not going to listen to your rants, you are coming with me and that's final. Did you ever give a thought to how I would live without you? I was getting married but I knew you will be here and I will see you when I visit Jiji, par aap hai ki bas uthaya bag aur chal diye laad governor kahike. You only think about yourself, other people's feelings simply don't matter to you. She scolded him getting annoyed by his selfless talk.
"But Khush... before could complete his sentence she pressed her lips against his and silenced him. She poured all her pent up feelings into the kiss. Arnav was first shocked but started responding as she hugged him closer telling him that it didn't matter to her what the world said. They slowly broke apart and Khushi rested her forehead on his.
"Arnavji I know it would be very difficult for you to forgive yourself. There's one thing I want you to put straight into your not-so shaatir dimaag, you have no right to trouble my husband with your immature stunts, he is and will always be the best husband in the world and also his precious heart is all mine. If ever in the future I find you cursing my husband I swear I will not hesitate to even kill you. She said trying to lighten the mood.
"Khushi I am really sorry and I promise I will never do anything that will cause you any pain. I promise to protect you from every bad thing in this world. I will make sure you are the happiest woman in the world and I wouldn't let a single tear fall from these beautiful eyes. Thank you for coming into my life Khushi Kumari Gupta.
Singh Raizada! Khushi said showing him the mangalsutra which he had put around her neck.
They both chuckled and Arnav took Khushi in his arms and buried his head in her hair. They stood their lost in each other's arms feeling at home after a very long time, each soaking in the feel of the other. Arnav cupped her cheeks and kissed her forehead.
I love you Khushi.
"I love you too Arnavji
They walked out of the airport hand in hand starting a new journey towards a bright future. Their love passed all the tests and crossed the obstacles in their paths. Despite of all the problems their love for each other never died. At the end love emerged as the winner.
