mostly raj kapoor, dilip kumar and dev anand movies
Kishore Kumar's films were childhood favorites, thoda bada hoke I watched almost all the B&W Dev Anand films. Never liked Dilip Kumar's films. Raj Kapoor's Anari was fun. Was never fond of Guru Dutt's films. Last B&W film I really enjoyed was Householder, it was made in English though.
Chalti ke naam gadi and Mr and Mrs 55 to see Madhubala
So many... still love watching Black and White movies!
I've only been seeing B&W films for the last year and half and I'm amazed at the sheer talent. And how they incorporate enough realism in otherwise commercial films. So many people associate B&W era with Guru Dutt's weepies or Raj Kapoor's overacting. But masala films with their overacting existed side by side with parallel cinema and art cinema. While the music is wonderful, the lyrics are very cynical, often flirting with atheism, alcoholism, depression (sometimes verging on suicidal). Amitabh's angry young man was obviously inspired by the 50s young man who suddenly realized that things haven't miraculously changed by the English leaving. Instead they have exchanged one set of masters for another. The brand new "College" education which their parents have scrimped for means nothing. And I'm amazed at the sheer independence and pragmatism the women exhibited. That's not to say that the sacrificial lambs didn't exist.
