Bar his mandling, I could really understand his anger and arrogance because of his past. His hate for khushi was really because of his attraction to her, right from the first moment.
His manhandling mostly was when Khushi triggered him. Khushi even though unknowingly always pulled his wrong nerves. ASR in a way suffered from untreated PTSD and Khushi always managed to pull that nerve which triggered him into such behaviours. The thing is, he actually realized his mistakes and apologized for each and every thing. And his attraction was something he perceived as his weakness because he never thought he could commit to someone for a life time or someone was worthy of that commitment, and he always feared of becoming a man like his father, someone his mother wasn't proud of.
And the fact these two were pole opposites and in no a way a match is the main crux of the story. The show was very well planned and written until Shyam's exit, they laid the foundation for the story till that in the first 20 episodes. It was the last two tracks which they messed up because GK was so invested in QH and wanted to end IPK. Barun exiting was the final nail in the coffin. Yet, IPKKND remains a classic after all these years.
IPKKND is not like other shows where his manhandling was glorified and ignored as romantic, he did realize it and apologized. Also, he was a very wounded character who had clear reasons and triggering points behind those behaviours. But Gul Khan turned every ML she did post IPK like ASR, but without any good reason, they all were actual jerks.
